Taiwo Afolabi has celebrated her invitation to play the Nigerian U-20 female football team known as the Falconets in a FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers double header against Tanzania.
The first leg of the fixture will take place in Tanzania on a date between November 10 and 12 while the second leg will be held at the Moshood Abiola Stadium on a date between November 17 and 19.
The invitees will be at the Chida Hotel in Utako, Abuja on Sunday, October 22.
Afolabi took to her X (formerly known as Twitter) handle to jubilate after making the list.
“I’m happy to announce that I’ve been called up to the Nigeria U20 Women’s team (Super Falconets) for the U20 Women’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against Tanzania,” she posted.
FIFA has increased the number of participants at the U-20 Woman’s World Cup to 24 teams from 16. Africa’s representatives at the showpiece have also been increased from two to four.
The next edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be held in Colombia from August 31 to October 22 next year.
Afolabi participated at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup which was hosted by India.
The Flamingos won the bronze medal at the tournament after defeating Germany 3-2 on penalties on October 30 at the Patil Stadium following a 3-3 stalemate at full-time.
