Aghahowa, Chukwu Lament Delay In Appointment Of New Super Eagles Coach Ahead 2023 AFCON Qualifiers

Aghahowa, Chukwu Lament Delay In Appointment Of New Super Eagles Coach Ahead 2023 AFCON Qualifiers

Ex-Nigeria international Julius Aghahowa and former Eagles coach, Christian Chukwu, have lamented the delay in the appointment of a new technical adviser for the Super Eagles.

Interim coach Austin Eguavoen and his technical crew were relieved of their duties after Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup last month.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) resolved to settle for a foreign a foreign manager and its technical committee has recommended four coaches to the federation for weeks now.

Qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is scheduled to commence next month, with the Eagles drawn in Group A alongside Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau and Mauritius/ Sao Tome and Principe.

Speaking in an interview with Complete Sports on Wednesday, Aghahowa said Nigerians were worried by the silence of the NFF on the appointment of a new coach.

Jose Paseiro, Enersto Valverde, Phillip Cocu and Laurent Blanc have been shortlisted for the vacant position.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk player stated that the delay may also affect the preparation of the national team for the qualifiers.

“It is the opinion of everyone, we are all looking forward to the early preparation for the tournament ( 2023 AFCON qualifiers). So if we do not get ready on time, if we don’t get somebody to handle the team in time, it can also affect the team during the preparation. So the earlier the better,” he stated.

Also, former Super Eagles coach Christian Chukwu pointed out that by now, the national team should have a new coach.

“By now, we should have a coach because the competition is coming nearer; it is so near now. I don’t know what the problem is, but the people running our football should know what is happening. They have named other coaches in other teams except the Super Eagles, I don’t know what is delaying. That is how we will not qualify for the AFCON again,” he told Brila FM in an interview.

  • I have mentioned it on several occasions on this forum that the set-back for eight years of Pinnick administration as NFF President is the delay in making and implementing decision. I have said it that the appointment will be implemented few days to the friendly match with Mexico. That is their styles and it will not change until the administration is changed.

  • They’ve already had what they wanted. Garba and Finidi.. they’ll take us to those friendlies.

** DUE TO DELAY IN ANNOUNCING SUBSTANTIVE COACH FOR SUPER EAGLE AFTER 2010 WORLD CUP, NIGERIA FAILED TO QUALIFY FOR
2011 AFCON BECAUSE OF 1-0 LOSS AGAINST GUINEA UNDER INTERIM OF COACH EQUAVOEN.
** DUE TO CONFUSION IN NFF ELECTION BETWEEN CHRIS GIWA AND AMAJU PINNICK, NFF FAIL TO ANNOUNCE SUBSTANTIVE COACH FOR SUPER EAGLE IN TIME AND NIGERIA FAIL TO QUALIFY FOR TWO CONSECUTIVE AFCON IN 2015 & 2017 AGAIN.
    ### ALSO WITH THIS PRESENT SITUATION IN DELAYING THE EMPLOYMENT OF SUBSTANTIVE COACH (standard foreign coach) FOR SUPER EAGLE, THIS TIME AROUND NIGERIA IS MAKING WAY FOR NOT QUALIFY FOR THREE CONSECUTIVE AFCON IN A ROW. ###

If the Pinnick led NFF can’t appoint someone by the time the AFCON qualifiers come by then they should first announce why it’s taking so much time and what their next line of action is, secondly they should also announce who is in charge for the time being and their plans for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers with regards to support. But instead they are busy gallivanting when important decisions await them.another low from the Pinnick led NFF.

Nigeria may not qualify for another Afcon tournament due to the incompetent of Amaju Pinnick and his colleagues.

This is the reward of not sacking Amaju Pinnick after the failure of the Super Eagles not making the world cup ticket against Ghana.

The current NFF/Mr. Eguavoen should have been sacked immediately after Ghana match but to my surprise, they have not been sacked yet.

For me, I don’t expect too much from the current NFF. Nigeria is under attack by the Nigerians themselves.

Who will rescue Nigeria from this calamity? It’s beyond my knowledge.

Only God can help us. To make things worst, 99% of Nigerians have been milking Nigeria for so long while the remaining 1% trying to make an impact to make Nigeria better. What can 1% do out of 100%?

This is why Nigeria is in this mess. Nigerians are not ready to make Nigeria a better place to live. When we are all ready, we will take action period. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

@omo9ja you must be dreaming. Why should they sack Mr no nonsense? Why should they sack Mr total football? Why should eguaveon be sacked when he did better and achieved way more than coach rohr, according to you? One simpleton said let us fail with our own, and now we’ve failed woefully, we must continue to fail. Coming 3rd in an expanded AFCON isn’t a big deal but Mr no nonsense couldn’t match that. You all said it was because he didn’t have a enough time. His team was paired to play against Ghana that appointed their coach after the AFCON and Mr no nonsense failed. So it wasn’t lack of time that made him fail.
Once again, I’m yet to see odegbami write his normal gibberish he always wrote when rohr was in charge

LIKE WHAT @TALK UR SAID, I PRAY THAT NIGERIA WILL NOT QUALIFY FOR FIVE CONSECUTIVE AFCON IN A ROW. FROM THERE NIGERIA WE LEARN
HOW TO BEGIN TO PROTEST AGAINST FOOTBALL MANAGEMENT IN THE COUNTRY.
OUR LEADERS IS BAD, OUR ROADS IS BAD, OUR ECONOMIC IS BAD. THE ONLY SPORT WE ARE USING TO WIPE AWAY OUR THINKING, BAD SITUATION, IS ALSO BAD. NOW EVERYTHING IS BAD.
NIGERIA WAKE UP, IT IS TIME TO TAKE ACTION. PREPARE FOR LONG LASTING(one year) PROTEST. VERY SOON IN LAGOS, AGBERO WILL BECOME OUR LEADER. NIGERIA WAKE UP, NO BE ONLY PRAYERS WILL SOLVE OUR PROBLEMS. THEY HAVE SEE US FINISH. IT IS TIME TO TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION. LET COME OUT AS ONE SOLIDARITY.

NFF HAVE NEVER BE SERIOUS ONE DAY. THEY ALWAYS EMBARKED ON FIRE BRIGADE APPROACH.
      IMMEDIATELY AFTER AFCON FAILURE:
*** CAMEROON, GHANA DIDN’T WASTE TIME IN RESTRUCTURING THEIR TECHNICAL CREWS. AND AT THE END OF THE DAY, BOTH COUNTRIES QUALIFIED FOR WORILD CUP. NIGERIA ANNOUNCED PASEIRO AS SUPER EAGLE TECHNICAL ADVISER BEFORE AFCON SO THAT HE WILL TAKE OVER FOR WORLD CUP PLAY-OFF, BUT AT THE END, PASEIRO IS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND FOR W/CUP PLAY-OFF.
*** IVORY COAST, BURKINA-FASO, TUNISIA PUT AWAY THEIR AFCON FAILURE AND BEGIN TO PREPARE FOR 2023 AFCON QUALIFICATIONS BY PLAYING GRADE-A FRIENDLY WITH BIG COUNTRIES LIKE FRANCE, ENGLAND, POLAND. BUT NIGERIA HAVE NOT GETTING COACH PRESENTLY TALKLESS OF THINKING OF WHICH PLAYERS WILL BE INVITED FOR QUALIFICATIONS.
WE HAVE NOT BEEN TAKING THINGS FOR SERIOUS IN THIS COUNTRY.
      GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

Why would Nigeria not be in a mess when we have people like you, who have never been objective in their contributions for once. And where is your Fatai Aleshe that you ‘discovered’ and Rohr refused to play? Where is Leke James and Osigwe? All you do here is drop names and expect the coach to play all of them at the same time.

    • Lol!@Omo9ja, see your life! See what people are saying about you, I knew how many years it took you to clamored for that combination (Eguavoen, Amunike), the only person that missed out was Siasia. But to my surprise, you are here again talking against them, all your life you will be scouting for average players that can’t make Cape verdean team..Fatai Alase, Anibaba, Fanendo Adi,Arokodare, Lokosa etc. It got to a stage, I got tired of reading whatever you post here. Hmmm… U no get one single shame.

Omo9ja is so shameless. We qualified with ease with a certain coach and we were clearly making progress but these vultures wanted him gone so we could retrogress. Clowns

NIGERIA CAN YES THAT ALL THE LOCAL COACHES ARE HYPOCRITE. WHEN EQUAVOEN WAS IN CHARGE, C.CHUKWU IS BACKING HIM THEN SO THAT PEOPLE WILL NOT SAY THAT HE IS NOT BACKING HIS OWN FOLLOW COUNTRY-MAN BUT NOW HE IS IN SUPPORT OF FOREIGN MANAGER. WE CAN ALL SEE THAT ALL OF THEM DOESN’T SAY TRUTH. THEY ARE ALL HYPOCRITE AND SENTIMENTAL. THEY DIDN’T WORTH TO BE LISTEN TO.
*** FOR YOU J.AGHAHOWA, YOU KNOW DURING YOUR CAREER LIFETIME, YOU WON THREE AFCON BRONZE MEDAL UNDERSTAND BRIBE-TAKEN & SENTIMENTAL COACHES WHICH SPELLED DOOM FOR YOUR CAREER BUT WON ONE AFCON SILVER MEDAL UNDER A FOREIGN MANAGER WHO MAKES YOUR CAREER BOOM, BLOSSOM AND LEADS YOU TO GREATEST.
*** IT IS GOOD FOR A PLAYER TO PLAY UNDER A COACH THEY CAN BOAST AND PROUD OF HIM ANYWHERE, ANYTIME AND ALSO TESTIFY ABOUT HIM IN FUTURE(e.g. Westerhoff, Jo, KESHI, Siasia).
** CAN ANY NIGERIA EX- PLAYERS PROUD & TESTIFY ABOUT PAST COACHES LIKE ONIGBINDE, AMODU, SALISU YUSUF, EQUAVOEN IN FUTURE. ARE THEY NOT GOING TO MAKE ALLEGED SENTIMENTAL AND BRIBE SCANDAL AGAINST THEM.
    ### A STANDARD FOREIGN MANAGER IS THE ONE SUIT NIGERIA SUPER EAGLE TEAM, NOT A LOCAL SENTIMENTAL & BRIBE-TAKERS COACH ###

    • First of all, once again people are blaming Amaju Pinnick led NFF for failing to appoint a Coach for the Super Eagles. When the truth is that it is the Sports Ministry duty now to choose and pay the Foreign coach now.

After all, NFF recommended Jose Peseiro, the Sports Ministry responded by saying NFF did not do a thorough job. Everything Sunday Dare touches does not go well.

The wicked elements are at it again. Omo9ja and his co – horts.

What’s the hurry in appointing a national coach that Nigeria will owe 6 months of salaries?

    • MuYiwa 2 years ago

      LOL.

    • Lol!here’s another bitter truth!
Well..NFF knew why they settled for paseiro! To owe him is already in his blood. He left Venezuela bcuz he was owed.

  • KENNETH 2 years ago

Please NFF take your time finding a coach, No need to rush. We don’t want someone that will come and not live in Nigeria, someone like someone stated not owe salaries. And who will go round the league and uncover talents. I know you work add on the logistics which is not easy because common to a common agreement is not that easy

  • Ayphillydegreat 2 years ago

As long as they can give us a decent foreign coach I’m ok. They’ve already settled for their choice. Let’s just hope everything is put in place for him to begin work asap. The bulk of our U20 team plays in the NPFL and academies. If they perform well they will be scouted for the senior national team. The likes of Valentine Ozornwanfor and Yira Sor were part of the last U20 team that played at the WorldCup. Now they’re playing regularly in Europe and knocking on the SuperEagles door. Ozornwanfor even had a few caps already. All we need is a foreign coach that will understand our players mentality.

Why are people so shameless in this country upon all that happened is it not pertinent fo Mr eguavoen and pinik to resign ??? yet they stayed out causing more damage to our football what a shame

  • Dr. Ehimen 2 years ago

That Eguavoen you igbo boys ganged up against here, is the most qualified nigerian coach with both local and international experienced. The record is there for everyone to see. There is no problem for the NFF to appoint an igbo person but there is no as qualified as Eguavoen, Finidi, Ladan Bosso, that is the problem.

We must allowed the NFF to go by merit not politely spoiling the reputations of fellow Nigerians after all, no coach can boast of winning matches or tournaments all the time. Sometimes they win and other time they lose. We must continue to support our local coaches that is the message.

  • Marculey 2 years ago

Thank you Dr. Ehime, the moment I read the first 20 comments, I knew somebody was out for sinister purpose. The delay in appointing the Super Eagles coach is what I think we should be discussing now that important matches are around the corner. I will join voices with Aghaghowa and Chairman Chukwu to call on the Nff to name a coach for the Eagles. We must not necessarily wait for a foreign coach since coach Egyavoen can handle the boys with Funidi as his Assistant.
