Aina: AFCON 2019 Bronze Good; I Want The Title Next Time

Ola Aina wants a taste of more laurels with the Super Eagles following the side’s third place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, reports Completesports.com.

The Torino of Italy defender was dropped from Nigeria’s squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia but bounced back to secure a place in the team that took part featured at AFCON 2019.

Injury to regular left-back, Jamilu Collins afforded him regular playing spot in the team as he featured in five out of the team’s seven games in the competition.

And after featuring for Nigeria in what was his first international competition, Aina is looking forward to more glorious time in the future.

“Our first objective was to win the trophy in Egypt but unfortunately, we couldn’t achieve that. In the end, we won bronze which wasn’t bad as well, ” Aina told Completesports.com.

“It was my first my major competition with the Super Eagles, and I was happy to get something out of it. In future, I hope to win the trophy and laurels with the Super Eagles.

“We have a young team with quality players as well. We can only hope for a great future. ”

One player that truly impressed for d SE. He was about the most consistent eagle besides that unfortunate blip that led to Cameroun’s second goal. To be honest that really wasn’t his fault but d communication problem that was our biggest problem at d AFcon.

Seriously, I still prefer him to Jamilu Collins on the left side of the defense….though jamilu seems to be the typical ‘German bred’ type of defender (he just gets the job done without making noise about it)

This is the advantage of having a young squad. Aina at just 22 yrs of age has 4 or 5 more Afcons ahead of him, potentially. And this is true of many others in the Eagles squad! If the team is properly managed, we could possibly win the next 3 or 4 Afcons. Not setting that as a target, but a man can dream 🙂

Ola Aina am Happy for you. I wish others born abroad will emulate you by switching to the super eagles, instead of waiting for England till eternity. I wish you good luck. Enjoy yourself. Next AFCON trophy is possible by the GRACE of God.
