Aina Shrugs Off Injury, Makes Torino Squad For Frosinone Clash

Nigeria defender Ola Aina has been named in Torino’s 21-man squad for Sunday’s Serie A away clash with Frosinone at the Stadio Benito Stirpe, reports Completesports.com.

Aina was included in the starting line-up in Torino’s 3-0 win against Chievo Verona at the Stadio Olimpico last weekend but was replaced by Cristain Ansaldi after he picked up an abdominal injury during the pre-match warm-up
exercise.

Aina in Torino squad for Serie A match at Frosinone

There were fears the versatile defender could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after failing to join his colleagues in training this week.

Aina returned to training on Friday and has now been included in the squad for Sunday’s game after proving his fitness during Saturday’s training session.

Aina who is on loan at Torino from Chelsea, has made 22 appearances for the club the season with a goal to his name.

He spent last season on loan at Championship club Hull City where he featured regularly for The Tigers.

There are reports that Torino will make the loan permanent at the end of the season following his impressive performances for the club.

The news will glad the heart of Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr who earlier this week named the versatile defender in his 23-man squad for the team’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Seychelles and the international friendly match against Pharaohs of Egypt billed for the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba later this month.

  • Great to see Balogun back in full training, Etebo in the starting lineup for Stoke and Ola Aina named in the squad for Torino.

As it stands now the only injury doubts are Tyrone Ebuehi and Mikel Agu with the upcoming international break looming with neither called up for the next two matches

  • According to BBC, Etebo is nowhere near the matchpday squad for Stoke today.

Reports from Portugal (link below) indicates that Mikel Agu is back in contention for Setubal’s next league match having overcome a muscle injury that saw him miss a number of games which surely cost him a place in the recently released Super Eagles squad.

    • @Deo, many thanks, after I posted the comment, google took his name off the starting lineup for the game. Good to hear that Agu is back in contention.

  • No worries bro.

    Brief highlights:
° Isaac Success has enhanced his chances of making Super Eagles next squad with a start and decent impact in a high profile match against England champions Man City.
° Kaizer Chiefs have elected to relegate Akpeyi to the bench in their league match today to suggest that perhaps the Nigeria number 3 should have stayed at Chippa United.
° Brenda Rogers has given Iheanacho a vote of no confidence as he left him on the bench throughout Leicester’s game today.
° Ndidi’s well-timed interception and delicious pass gave birth to the move that Led to Leicester’s opening goal to send signals of what Super Eagles fans should expect from him in games to come for Nigeria.
° Moses played full 90 minutes in Fenerbahce’s slim loss to indicate that he is match-ready should the talks between him and Amaju Pinnick leads to a return to the super eagles.
° Omeruo is currently featuring in the heart of Legenes’ defence to continue his consistent season which should translate (he would hope) for him to regain the position he played in the heart of Nigeria’s defense in Afcon 2013.
° Semi Ajayi is playing more as a defensive midfielder to smashing effect these days to pile more pressure on John Ogu slot going to 2019.
° Mikel Obi earned a yellow card for his team today as he continues to preserve his energy for club football and Afcon finals.

That’s all she wrote folks. 🙂
