Ajayi Gutted To Miss First AFCON With Super Eagles

Semi Ajayi is disappointed to miss out on a place in Nigeria’s squad to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, reports Completesports.com.

Ajayi, who plays Rotherham United and Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho were two players axed from the 25-man squad that had a week preparation in Asaba ahead of the competition.

The versatile defender has however wished the team well as they gun for Nigeria’s fourth AFCON trophy in Egypt.

“Wishing my brothers the best of luck at the upcoming #AFCON 2019. It’s been a privilege to have been part of this squad and as much as I’m gutted that I can’t make it, I wish everyone linked with the Super Eagles the very best of luck this summer. I will be supporting the team until the end.Go and make Nigeria proud my brothers, “Ajayi wrote on his instagram page.

The 26-year-old earned his first call up to the Super Eagles in August 2018 for the 2019 AFCON qualifiers against Seychelles.

He made his debut in the game replacing the injured Chigozie Awaziem in the 73rd minute.

Great response from a good player to a bias coach.

You are still a part of the eagles man. Keep your head up. If and only if we could take 24 players along, believe me you would have been on that plane. But the moment Mikel Obi decided to come back to the team…I always knew one midfielder will have to make way for him.

That’s the spirit am sure you will be back in no distance time

  • That’s not the end of the road bro,I trust you and am sure you will always come back stronger, you are a very good footballer, but just like Ola Aina who was dropped prior to Russia 2018,he came back stronger the following season and today he is going to Egypt,am very sure you are still part of this team bcos you are a very good player, just make sure you dont go on relegation with Rothertham, get another club, and keep doing what you know how to do best… Best of luck bro.

  • That is the spirit bro. Ola Aina was equally devastated for missing the World Cup final 23, but he kept on doing his thing and now he his back in again. The bitter truth is only 23 players can only be picked, that is why players picked should see it as a privilege and give their 110% when on the pitch in the green white jersey.

You deserves to in Egypt but this is what happened whe the system is so corrupt.

Super Falcons also have the same issue.

Our under17 as well. Lateef Omidiji.
This is what happens if you don’t have godfather in Aso rock or in Nff.

Nothing is working this Country and some of us here lying to each other and also pretending that they didn’t know what is happening. Dying and smiling. What a shame. God bless Nigeria!!!

    • My friend, take your frustration away from here. Not all your choice players will make the team just as it is the world over.
Ajayi has taken his disappointment in good and if he continues to work hard he’ll experience what Ola Aina is experiencing now.
Omidiji is not the first player to miss out like that and he won’t be last. If he goes home and continue to grow, he can rebound in the under 20 in 2yrs time to prove his point.

    • Was he not the same coach that gave him a chance in the first place by giving him is first international cap? Am sure many complained then that he invited a player from championship….now he is drop you are saying it is corruption, if he had been chosen ahead of anyone in that midfield would that not be a “greater corruption”. Please don’t use every avenue to vent out your …………

This is football. It makes you bounce back in your best form, when you are not included in the squad.
