Going into Wednesday’s game, Kaizer Chiefs had failed to win their last two league games, losing one and drawing one.

Kaizer Chiefs broke the deadlock in the 27th minute through Erick mathoho.

Leonardo Castro made it 2-0 in the 57th minute before adding the third goal on 69 minutes.

The win saw Kaizer Chiefs remain top on 38 points, five points ahead of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns in the 16-team league table.

  • Nigeria goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi shows no signs of taking his foot off the pedal in South Africa as he contributed his part in Kaizer Chiefs’ victory this evening.

Only yesterday, the Super Eagles gollie was the object of much ridicule among a section of Super Eagles supporters as the goal he conceded against Algeria in the Afcon semi-final was voted as the goal of the year award with Mahrez as the recipient.

In keeping a clean sheet today, the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist continues to prove that he is a weapon of multiple deterrent.

He deters goals and deters his critics as will with performances that prove that referring to him as a poor goalkeeper is a misplaced judgement.

Akpeyi by all standards is the best goalkeeper we have in Nigeria at the moment. He may not enjoy popular support but he stands tall above other goalkeepers we have within and outside the country.
His shock appearance between the sticks at the nations cup has boosted his confidence and has not looked back since then.
I believe we have a lot to gain from the form he is showing in the south African league. At least we can boast of two dependable and experienced goalkeepers when crocked Uzoho is back and playing.

      You are right @ turf.

I am not a fan of Akpeyi…but hey, give it to the young man. Knowing how foreigners are derided in South Africa, for Akpeyi to confine Ithumeleng Khune (SA no 1 gk) and Bvuma (SA no 3), to national team goalkeepers to the bench at Kaizer Cheifs is something worth acknowledging. If Kazier chiefs win the league this season after a long wait, Akpeyi being in goal will be one of the reasons behind it.

The dude is doing well for himself and all we can do is just to wish him well.

SA league might not be a ‘top league’, but I’m very sure it’s of higher standard compared to German 4th division.

In absence of Uzoho, Akpeyi will still win my bet to continue to man the post for the SE in competitive games. Okoye can remain an understudy and acquaint himself with the demands of international football in friendly and low stakes matches.

  • Am happy for Akpeyi he is doing great in s/a dats gud for him and se ride on. we will allways pray for you. PSAM 118 :22.
