  • Thank God ,Chuba Akpom is fast getting his mojo back .Super Eagles coach,Jose Peseiro should cap-tie him for Nigeria now in the World Cup Qualifiers, before England comes calling!

At what age!!! That ship has sailed. He will be lucky to get a SE call up.

  • According to owngoal.com, Chuba Akpom is included in Nigeria’s provisional squad for November’s world cup qualifiers. If true then he is hitting form at the right time in club football.

I think it’s something like 3 goals in 2 games now for Akpom in Ajax.

At 28 years old, Nigeria might yet squeeze 4 quality years out the of Akpom for 2024 Afcon and 2026 world cup qualifiers.

Akpom is a quality marksman who is lethal inside the 18 yard box. I am a huge fan of his and hope he somehow wedges himself into the Super Eagles.

  • England can never call him again unless the unexpected thing like injuries to all English strikers

When this guy arrived Ajax Amsterdam and was given the No.10 Jersey, the loud Ex-Ajax greats who always jump to criticise players even before they get the chance to settle down were angry that the No.10 Jersey was iconic and a player in the calibre of Akpom shouldn’t have been handed that number… sometimes all players need is some encouragement and support. Akpom is a highly rated player who broke his senior football duck at Ajax at the young age of 17/18yrs… Dortmund wanted him then, a club where he could have grown and matured progressively but like all young English boys who want to lace boots for England seniors … he stayed put at Arsenal and started struggling because the senior players then were all first teamers for the International sides… like of Pires, Wiltord,Henry,Hjunberg and the likes. He has always been a quality player and Ajax actually hold him high in esteem to make a move for him. He can play just like Iheanacho as a support striker and conveniently as attacking midfielder… as Arsenal was rated ahead of Iwobi at first to highlight his quality and talent… I pray God keeps him healthy and sharp as we inch towards nations Cup party. He is a quality addition any day to Super Eagles in my opinion.

    • Well said @ Jimmy Ball. Chuba Akpom ,a childhood pal of Alex Iwobi, will no doubt be a great addition to the Super Eagles squad. At 28,he can play for the national team till he is up to 32. He may be a late bloomer on the international scene but may end surpassing those who came to the Super Eagles before him.

@Hillary Ochiabuto… an English born 28yr old is a Nigeria born 22yr old, so I will leave you to do the football age maths. Hahaha…

    • Yes,I understand @ Jimmy Ball,by English standards he is still relatively young. They keep records of births and deaths over there and it’s very difficult to cheat, age wise. So Akpom is young. By African standards,he is 22. 28 is just a number.

Good player but the guy is not bringing anything special to the already loaded  frontline.sentiments and emotions are apart, because some folks here are like nuclear power, emotional reactors. We need Tella more than we need Akpom, more midfielders, goalkeepers, more defenders are needed

  • @Sunnyb,they usually say “the more, the merrier”. We need both Akpom and Tells in the Super Eagles . Recently, we lost Anonio Nusa(Norway),Folarin Balogun(USA),Eberechi Eze(England),Destiny Udogie(Italy) and now Tobias Lawal (Austria) .So even if they will not be in the 2023 AFCON partyPeseiro needs to secure them for Nigeria for the World Cup Qualifiers which will continue after the AFCON in Ivory Coast.
