Akpom Completes Middlesbrough Move

Sky Bet Championship club Middlesbrough have announced the signing of Chuba Akpom for an undisclosed fee.

Akpom linked up with Middlesbrough from Greek club PAOK.

The 24-year-old has scored 18 goals during his two years at the club and after firing them to an unlikely title success in 2019 – they started the season with a seven-point deduction – he leaves them on the brink of the Champions League Group stages.

Boro boss Neil Warnock had spoke of excitement earlier in the week when he revealed that the club were closing in on his main striking target, and Akpom completed the move on Saturday morning.

“I’m delighted to finally have got him,” Warnock told the club’s website.

“He’s been my number one choice. I’ve wanted him for a long time. I’d like to give a big thanks to Neil Bausor for getting it done.

“I told him what we were doing at the club, and right from day one, he wanted to come, and I’m delighted.”

Warnock had spoken with the player about his aims and hopes for the club, and Akpom was delighted to complete the formalities and sign a three-year contract with an option of a further year.

Akpom joins Sam Morsy, Marcus Bettinelli, and Grant Hall in joining the Boro as Warnock looks to shape his squad.

The striker will be at the Riverside on Saturday to watch his new team-mates in action against Bournemouth.

  • With Akpom’s quality, he should have joined a premier league side and not a championship club. Having already filed for a change of natiinality from England to Nigeria ,this is definitely not the best of moves for a player who desires to earn a spot in the star- studded Super Eagles squad brimming with so much talents. Middlesbrough is a good club,no doubt, but they are stuck in England’s second tier league.Let’s see if he the deal comes good in the long run.
