Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom has been named Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for December.
Akpom was announced winner of the award on the Twitter handle of Sky Bet Championship on Friday morning.
The former Arsenal player and Boro’s top scorer saw off competition from Iliman Ndiaye (Sheffield United), Alex Palmer (West Bromwich Albion) and Joel Piroe (Swansea City) to claim the award, which is selected by Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman, EFL Chief Executive Trevor Birch and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.

Akpom scored four times in December, including an excellent hat-trick against Wigan Athletic at a sold-out Riverside on Boxing Day. With a total of 13, the 27-year-old striker currently leads the way in the Championship’s scoring charts.
The award is further recognition for Akpom, who was named PFA Player of the Month in November and has been nominated for the same award in December.
Also it is the third season running in which a Boro player has scooped the December gong, with Duncan Watmore winning in 2020 and Isaiah Jones last campaign.
