Chuba Akpom was on target for Ajax in their 3-1 home win against Groningen in the Eredivisie on Sunday.
It is Akpom’s second goal in five appearances in the league this season.
The last time the former Arsenal striker scored was in September in a 5-0 win against Fortuna Sittard.
Akpom, who came on in the 59th minute scored in the 94th minute to seal the win for the Eredivisie giants.
The 28-year scored 11 goals in 25 appearances in his first season.
It is a return to winning ways for Ajax who drew in their last game and now have three wins in last five games.
The win took Ajax to fifth place on 13 points in the league table.

Where exactly is the fairness in Eguaveon’s selection? Let’s break this down. Chuba Akpom has been nothing short of spectacular for Ajax this season, yet he’s not deemed worthy of a Super Eagles call-up? Really? Meanwhile, Taiwo Awoniyi didn’t get a single minute on the pitch today for Nottingham Forest, but somehow he’s considered a better candidate for our upcoming match against Libya. And then there’s Joe Aribo—played the full game for Southampton today, yet he’ll be watching us play Libya from the comfort of his couch. Where’s the logic in that?
And what about Kevin Akpoguma, who has been a defensive rock for Hoffenheim? Somehow, Tanimu, who hasn’t even laced his boots in a competitive match this season, is deemed a better fit for the squad. Are we really saying that a player with no game time is more deserving than someone putting in a solid shift in one of Europe’s top leagues? This trend of rewarding mediocrity while ignoring form and fitness is a recipe for disaster.
It’s not just bad for team morale—it’s a slap in the face to players who are putting in the hard work and performing week in, week out. How are they supposed to stay motivated when they see this kind of favoritism? This sort of imbalance and lack of fairness in selection will destroy the team spirit, erode trust, and discourage those who actually deserve a shot. If we keep this up, we’ll be left with a squad filled with underperformers, while the real talents are left on the sidelines.
Same fairness the people didn’t get in the just concluded Edo election,Imo election where the fourth candidate with almost the least legitimate vote cast was declared winner! The presidential election which was stolen before our on very eyes..The man who won and who Nigerians voted for was told he finished third!
Yet you get some Nigerians supporting this unfairness because of tribe religious or for other reasons. These same people will be the first to call Eguavoen and the NFF names, some may even attack me after reading my post,so my brother we will never get fairness until we start fighting any form injustice whether it affects us or not, whether it’s against our interests or not. What is bad is bad and we as a people should abhor all forms of social vices, because if you support unfairness today tomorrow the system that you actively groomed to be unfair will give you a dose of your medication.
95% of the players in Super Eagles cant even rated as players Ajax Amsterdam will ever attempt to sign… the Dutch know football. AFC Ajax is a club that only signs visible talent and performers… yet one of our own in Akpom is deemed not good enough for Super Eagles… Eguaveon is a shameless consistent failure of a coach… a fraud and opportunist masquerading as coach… a serial failure of a football manager.
If Akpom likes, he can score 1,000 goals this season. Dem no go invite am.
It seems to me that the more he scores, the more he’s ignored. Perhaps he should stop scoring. Maybe they will notice that, LOOOOL.

Akpom Nakpom. You are far better than most other Super Eagles strikers invited. Goal is the game, Akpom is the name. Corruption is too much in the NFF.
This is very unfair from NFF and their coach.
Why are you all acting surprised. He needs to grease the palm of the authorities. He must have a baba isale that will make it mandatory for him to be invited. Just read on another outlet the tanimu is being invited because someone came to the NFF rescue so he is compensation for the financial assisatnce he is giving. Only in Nigeria
Tom Dele Bashiru or Aribo should be in the super eagles on current form not Alhassan Yusuf. In attack Olatunji and Akpom for Iheanacho and Awoniyi respectively,in the defence Akpoguma and not Tanimu.
Players that were unfairly ignored:
1.Victor OLatunji (Sparta Praha)
2.Akpom (Ajax)
3.Tom Dele Bashiru/Aribo (Watford/Southampton)
4.Akpoguma/Jordan Torunarigha (Hoffenheim/Gent)
totally agree with your list@ Greenturf
I would also add Getafe’s Uche Christantus; he has been putting up top level performance for his team.
Like we have always stated, the selection process in Nigeria is ridden with ineptitude and corruption. Fairness is nothing they understand.
Rather than them to go around scouting for the best of us out there and try to convince those quality foreign born and bred Nigerians still sitting on the sidelines to play for us, they rather arrogantly, selfishly and greedily pick players that play in division 3!
For the life of me, I don’t understand why they don’t see, that we are doing ourselves a disservice from excelling when we fail to select fairly and choose only the best deserving of a call up.
It’s just a shame, these leaders keep shooting themselves on the foot.
Which Aribo is on form. How many games has he played this season. If it’s the same Aribo i watched over the weekend, please let him stay back please.
I tire ooo, you expect @Greenhut to know better, that a player played full match and played rubbish all through didn’t make him any different, Aribo have been playing trash.
Hehehehe Greenturf….In the words of 9jaLunatic….’they are not good enough’ and there’s nothing you can tell me about it….LMAOOoo.
Eguavoen has never hidden is desire to cut the quota of foreign born players in the SE to the arrest minimum. Its the worst kept secret from the stable of NFF’s technical department.
He started this project with the inexplicable exclusion of Dessers, Akoguma, Bassey and Lookman from the 2021 AFCON squad for his half fit sons Nwakali and Ndah.
Add Cyriel Dessers to your list and that makes it 6 of the MOST DESERVING Nigerian players denied call ups….and guess what they are foreign born players.
Akpom has even been consistent for 3 straight seasons now. That he has not been rewarded with at least a debut is so so sad.
