Alaba Facing Fresh Lay-Off With Rib Fracture

Bayern Munich have confirmed that David Alaba is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a hairline fracture to his rib. The 27-year-old Austria international suffered the injury during Tuesday’s 7-2 Champions League thrashing of Tottenham in what was his 350th appearance for the Bavarian giants.

Alaba was forced off at half-time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with the problem after he was caught by Serge Aurier early on in the game.

It was initially thought that he had suffered bad bruising, but a further assessment from club doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt identified the fracture. Bayern did not give any indication of when their influential left-back would return to action, just claiming he was sidelined “for the time being”.

It is the latest injury to hamper Alaba this season as a thigh problem has restricted him to just three Bundesliga outings so far and he will miss Saturday’s game against Hoffenheim.
Benjamin Pavard filled in at left-back in Alaba’s previous absence and looks set to retain his place in the side this weekend.
