AC Milan has formally announced the sacking of head coach Massimiliano Allegri, along with a sweeping, profound reorganization of the club’s sporting department, following a fifth-place finish in Serie A.
The club cited a late-season collapse and failure to secure Champions League qualification as an unequivocal failure.
Allegri Second Coming
Allegri had returned for a second stint as Milan head coach just last year (May 2025), replacing Sergio Conceição.
The 2025-26 season saw the team fall from a top-two position to fifth place after a 2-1 loss to Cagliari on the final day.
AC Milan’s statement reads: “After last season’s disappointment, the owners’ mandate for the club was clear: return to the Champions League and build the foundations for success and a consistent position at the top of Serie A.

“For much of the season, we remained in the top two of the league, with a real chance of competing for the Scudetto.
“However, the season’s finale was far below the level we’d shown up to that point, and last night’s disappointing defeat turned this season into an unequivocal failure.
“It’s time for change and a profound reorganization of the Club’s sporting department. Effective immediately, the tenures at AC Milan of CEO Giorgio Furlani, Sporting Director Igli Tare, Head Coach Massimiliano Allegri, and Technical Director Geoffrey Moncada conclude.

“We extend our thanks to each of them for their work and dedication during their tenure at the Club.
“Further announcements regarding these new appointments will be made as soon as they are finalized, with the goal of having a structure in place for next season.”

Inter Milan, Napoli, Roma and Como, for the first time in their history, will represent Italy in Europe’s top-tier club competition next season while AC Milan join Juventus in the Europa League.
