The Nigeria international also registered an assist in the game.
The 23-year-old picked up the Man of the Match award after the encounter.
Despite the forward’s impressive performance, Alonso insisted that there is still room for improvement in his game.
“He can and must do more. He knows it, and the team needs it,” the Spanish tactician emphasised during his interaction with the media.

Yes….I agree with the coach….Boniface can do much more and he should not be complacent at this point of his career. Our players have the tendency to be lazy when they think they have arrived but it will be for Victor’s good not to imbibe that mentality. Hard work pays more so when he has a very young career. Good luck Boniface…..
Hs is a lazy guy. He should not be starting in the Eagle line-up. Bring Urban to compete against Boniface. He de do shakare when he is playing for Nigeria.
Edoman you don’t rival for your statesman. Lol your sentiment sha!
@Edoman you don’t understand Xabi Alonso here Cleary, He is just encouraging him ina tough way to reach his full potentials which we all know and can see he is edging closer there, If you watched the Hoffenhiem game you would know
Thumbs up brotherman @Ugo. U have said it all. Boniface is far better than Gift Orban.
Heaven bless Boniface and all deserving Super Eagles players
