Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has officially made himself unavailable for national team selection.
He stated that he will not play under current head coach Mohamed Ouahbi but emphasized that he is not retiring from international football.

In a detailed Instagram post, the AFC Ajax player explained his decision to step away from the squad just ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Amrabat announced his temporary departure via social media, noting the difficulty of the choice while keeping his specific reasons private out of respect for the team, while leaving the door open for a future return.
“This has been a very difficult decision, but I do not feel able to continue representing the national team under the current head coach,” Amrabat said in an Instagram post.
“I am therefore making myself unavailable for selection while he remains in charge.
“Out of respect for the national team and everyone involved, I prefer to keep the reasons behind this decision private.

“I want to be clear: I am not retiring from international football, and I am not closing the door on representing Morocco again.”
The decision follows reported friction and reduced playing time under manager Mohamed Ouahbi (who took over in March 2026), as the coach favors younger midfield talents.
