Former U-23 Olympic Eagles goalkeeper John Ga’ad has criticised Lobi Stars management following the death of former Nigeria U-17 Golden Eaglets striker Edward Anyamkyegh, who reportedly died on Tuesday night, 3 November 2026, Completesports.com reports.
Anyamkyegh’s Footballing Çareer
Anyamkyegh, 48, represented Nigeria at the 1995 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Ecuador, scoring two goals in the Golden Eaglets’ three group-stage matches.
The former striker featured for BCC Lions of Gboko, Benue State, and Julius Berger of Lagos during his domestic top-flight career before moving to Europe. He first played for Russian side Sheriff Tiraspol and later turned out for Ukrainian clubs Karpaty Lviv, Karpaty-2 and Lviv13, among others.

Anyamkyegh also had a spell with Finnish club KuPS before retiring from professional football and turning to coaching upon his return to Nigeria. He also coached Emmanuel Babayaro’s club.

Ga’ad, who is now the goalkeeper coach of Bendel Insurance, told Completesports.com that Anyamkyegh had fallen into financial difficulties and desperately needed employment with Lobi Stars, but the club’s management allegedly refused to offer him a job.
Ga’ad Questions Lobi Stars’ Treatment Of Anyamkyegh
“It’s rather painful. Anyamkyegh is a former Nigeria international like myself. He’s from Benue State and repeatedly begged the Lobi Stars management for an appointment in any capacity so he could take care of himself and his family, yet the club refused,” Ga’ad lamented.
“I’ve never seen a state-owned club treat a player from its own state this way. Now that Anyamkyegh is dead, what will the Lobi Stars management gain from hearing about his death when they should have rescued him?”
Ga’ad Reveals Former Striker Begged For Curator’s Job
“At one point, Anyamkyegh even begged for a curator’s job at Lobi Stars, but the present management kept tossing him around like a nylon bag on a river. Today, Anyamkyegh is gone. So painful,” Ga’ad lamented.

So sad and a painful loss. But the late striker looks like someone in their mid 50’s from the photo above.
