Arsenal Goalie Cech To Retire From Football At End Of Season

Legendary Arsenal and Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has announced he will retire from football at the conclusion of the Premier League season after a glittering 15-year career in England’s top flight.

In a statement released through his social media accounts on Tuesday, the 36-year-old said he felt he had achieved everything in the game and was ready to hang up the gloves.

“This is my 20th season as a professional player and it has been 20 years since I signed my first professional contract, so it feels like the right time to announce that I will retire at the end of this season,” Cech said.

“Having played 15 years in the Premier League, and won every single trophy possible, I feel like I have achieved everything I set out to achieve. I will continue to work hard at Arsenal to hopefully win one more trophy this season, then I am looking forward to seeing what life holds for me off the pitch.”

The Arsenal no.1, who joined from bitter rivals Chelsea in 2015, holds a number of records in England’s top flight including most clean sheets (161) and longest streak without conceding a goal (903 minutes).

He was crucial to Chelsea’s dominance during the mid 00s until his transfer to Arsenal, helping the Blues win four Premier League titles, four FA Cups and a Champions League trophy.

Cech also lifted the FA Cup with Arsenal in 2016/17. He will retire as one of the most decorated and celebrated goalkeepers to ever play in Europe.
