Arsenal Legend, Etame-Meyer: Saka Has Potential To Be World-Class

Arsenal Invincible and former Cameroon international Lauren Etame-Meyer can’t hide his excitement over the potential of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, admitting that the two young guns have huge futures ahead of them.

Saka has already become one of Arsenal’s most integral players under Mikel Arteta at the age of 19 in what has been a turbulent season at the Emirates, and his fine form has earned him a spot in the senior England set-up.

The England starlet, who committed his long-term future to the Gunners after signing a four-year contract extension last July, is continuing to go from strength to strength and yet again played a key role for his side by scoring in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Newcastle on Monday.

And Etame-Meyer is expecting big things from the left-footed teenager, claiming he has the potential to go right to the very top.

“Saka has the potential to be a world-class player. He is a player who understands the game which is so important,” he told Gentingbet

“How many times does he lose the ball during a game? Not many at all. He plays simple. He can play in a variety of different positions and do a great job in all of them.

“I still think he hasn’t achieved his full potential. Sometimes for a young player to reach their potential then they need to be surrounded by top players who will make them better. But Saka has all the qualities to be a top, top player.”

But Etame-Meyer’s praise for the crop of Arsenal’s young guns didn’t stop there as he also hailed the exciting talent of Brazilian teenager Martinelli.
Martinelli has only recently returned to full fitness after missing six months of 2020 with a serious knee injury.

The 19-year-old then sustained an ankle injury in the warm-up ahead of the recent FA Cup win against Newcastle, with fears he may again be out for a lengthy time but those concerns were short-lived as he has already returned to action.

Martinelli – who has won the hearts of Arsenal fans thanks to his infectious workrate and never-say-die attitude – has already re-galvanized Arsenal’s attack, which has proved rather toothless so far this season – with the club sitting 10th in the Premier League.

“Martinelli is one of the best talents in the Premier League,” the Premier League, FA Cup, AFCON and Olympic gold winner added.

“He was unlucky to get injured last season as he was showing excellent promise. He is quick, he can attack the spaces in the last third.

“He can play in the number nine or wide positions. He is quick in transitions and has lots of pace, as you can see from his goal against Chelsea last year. Hopefully, he can come back strong from his injury and pick back up where he left off.

“Arsenal need all their players fit – the season is very long. And Martinelli is so useful to have in Arsenal’s attack as he can play in all of the positions across the front three.”
