‘Arsenal Very Close To Signing Osimhen’ – Italian Journalist

Arsenal were reportedly ‘very close’ to signing Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen ahead of his move to Italy, it has been revealed.

Osimhen was extremely highly rated during his time with Lille and eventually decided to move to Napoli last summer in a £52m deal.

However, according to Italian journalist Paolo Bargiggia, his destination could well have been north London instead of Naples – whilst he has also compared the former Wolfsburg forward to Romelu Lukaku who returned to Chelsea earlier this year.

“Let’s forget that the four counterparts given to Lille were convenient for the budget, but Osimhen, in a year, he can reach over 100 million and approach the ratings of Romelu Lukaku. Moreover, he earns only 5 million gross in salary: not much, for a striker of his calibre.

“You must know that Osimhen was followed by Arsenal: he was very close to the Gunners, but Cristiano Giuntoli spoke with Aurelio De Laurentiis and the president broke the delay: so Napoli decided and managed to buy him.”

Meanwhile, Osimhen has gone from strength to strength since arriving at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

The 22-year-old has netted 16 goals in 36 appearances for the Serie A league leaders.

He has six goals in as many games in all competitions which includes a brace as Napoli came from 2-0 down to draw with Leicester City in the Europa League.

Osimhen now has just under four years remaining on his contract with his current employers.

  • Arsenal always want to buy african (Nigerian) talented kids very cheap thats one of the reason they miss out on them.
They missed out on chukwueze, they didnt give nwakali a chance to prove himself and now it’s been said they missed signing Osimhen. Dont think they could have afforded osimhen in the first place or be willing to pay the real value for his service.
Osimhen is right where he should be and is doing a great job while preparing himself for greater things ahead.

  • Arsenal is always missing everything.
