Triple Olympic Champion Fraser-Pryce Rekindles Dream Of Playing For Arsenal Ladies

Jamaican sprint queen and triple
Olympic gold medallist, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, has again humorously hinted at her love to play professional football when she retires as a track and field athlete, Completesports.com reports.

Fraser-Pryce, 34, who won 100m gold medals at Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympics, as well as 4×100 relay gold at the Tokyo 2020 Games, took to the Social Media on Monday to flaunt her Arsenal fan morale. The nine-time World Championships and one-time World Indoor Championships gold medallist, an Arsenal fan, also refreshed memories about her longstanding ‘dream’ to play for Arsenal Ladies.

Fraser-Pryce visited Arsenal’s iconic Emirates Stadium on July 2016 – two years after she won her second 100m Olympic gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics. And she relived the grand memories of that personal excursion on Monday by posting the photos and joked about a possibility of signing for the Arsenal Ladies when she retires, and dazzling as a speedy winger.

“From my high school days it was all about Thierry Henry! 🙋🏽‍♀️🤣When you know you know💥💥 #MondayMood #Memories #ArsenalFan #NoWaggonist #WhoVex,” the four-time Olympian posted on her Facebook and Twitter pages on Monday September 27 with photos of her earlier visit to the Emirates Stadium.

The 34 year old had quipped after that visit to the Emirates: “When I’m retired I’ll come and try out for the Arsenal Ladies team. And who knows, maybe l’ll get in just by speed alone. I’ll play forward, as long as everybody else passes me the ball. That’s fine, l’ll do that. I think I’ll work good running the flank too”.

Fraser-Pryce may be in the threshold of following in the footsteps of his male compatriot, Usain Bolt, who veered into fun romance with football after his illustrious career in track and field.

Bolt, a Manchester United fan, had joked in 2016 – a year before he retired, that he would love to play for the Red Devils if given the opportunity. But it was for a Norwegian side, Stromsgodset, that Lightning Bolt walked his dream of playing for a football club. He trained with the club in 2018 and featured in a friendly match donning jersey number 9.58, depicting his world record time in 100m.

Later in August 2018, at 32, A-League (Australia. League) reportedly supported one of its clubs, Central Coast Mariners, to fund an eight-week Bolt’s non professional playing contract. He featured in two friendlies before leaving the club in November of that year. He made his debut as a substitute against Central Coast selected side, then scored two goals in his second match – a friendly game he started, to help the club thrash Macarthur South West United 4-0.
