Arteta: Possible Arsenal May Not Make any January signing

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says there is the possibility of Arsenal not making any signing in the January transfer window.

The Gunners have been linked with a number of players in the winter transfer.

Among the players linked with a move for Arsenal are RB Leipzig right-back Dayot Upamecano, Layvin Kurzawa of Paris Saint-Germain and Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi.

But speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday’s Premier League clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Arteta said the club might not bring in anybody.

“It’s a possibility, yes.”

When asked on the links with Kurzawa, Arteta said: “There is nothing new to say on any individual players. When we have more info, we’ll let you know.”

On whether he would be unhappy not to sign anyone Arteta replied : “I would not be unhappy without anyone in because we couldn’t, it’s because the players have to be players who can really help us and make a difference in the squad, not just [signing] for the sake of bringing in players.”

Looking forward to Tuesday’s game, Arteta described it as a must win for Arsenal to boost their top-four hopes.

“It’s really important. It’s very, very important for us to win this game to fight for that. Also, the game we played at home, it could have made a big difference and we were very close to it. Tomorrow we need to win.”

And on the race for the top four Arteta added: “Everyone is having a lot of problems to put together back-to-back wins, the league has been very competitive this season and that is why the gaps aren’t that big.

“There are still four months to play and a lot of things can happen, a lot of games between the top teams as well so I think that will change.”

Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Sheffield United saw Arsenal move to 10th position on 29 points.

They are 10 points adrift of Chelses who are fourth.
