Atletico Madrid have agreed to sign Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata on a permanent contract when his 18-month loan deal expires. The Spain international joined Atletico in January, netting six goals in 17 appearances last term, and his exploits have convinced the club to do a permanent deal.

Morata struggled to settle in England after completing a £60million switch from Real Madrid, scoring 24 goals in 72 games, and he will hope to continue rebuilding his career in his homeland. Atletico said in a statement: “The Spanish striker will play at our club on loan this season, as was agreed when he joined Atletico in the January transfer window, and the move will become permanent at the beginning of the 2020-21 season.”
The Spanish outfit have been busy in the transfer market this summer, adding Joao Felix and Hector Herrera from Benfica and Porto respectively. Forward Antoine Griezmann’s departure to Barcelona appears to be drawing closer, with the Catalan side expected to meet his 120million euros buyout clause.
