Attention To Detail Key For Watford

Watford’s head performance analyst, Isidre Ramon Madir, says the club are making the “little details” count as they prepare for the new season. Javi Gracia’s first full season in charge at Vicarage Road proved a huge success as the Hornets reached only a second ever FA Cup final and also spent much of the campaign challenging for a top-seven finish in the Premier League.

Everything is now geared towards Watford enjoying a similarly successful 2019-20 campaign and Madir admits their attention to detail will have to be even greater. “I am sure it will be tougher than last season,” Madir told the club website. “Opponents will know you so you have to evolve your style of play, you have to improve things and this is very demanding for the coaches.

“The little details will be more important than the first season. In Javi’s first [full] season the opponents don’t know you, but now they do and we need to work hard to repeat and then improve things to get better results.” Watford will kick-off the new season with a home match against Brighton on August 10.

Brighton will be under new management for that game, with Graham Potter having replaced Chris Hughton at the helm, but Madir says Watford will be ready for whatever the Seagulls throw at them.

“We watched a lot of Swansea last season as we watch other coaches to see how they are preparing and how they did it. We cover all the teams so we can play against different styles of play,” Madir added. “Potter is a guy who will be preparing to play against us and we have to be ready for that.”
