Awaziem Makes First League Start In Over Two Months, Helps Alanyaspor Claim Away Win

Chidozie Awaziem featured for Alanyaspor in their 2-1 away win against Kayserispor in the Turkish Super Lig on Monday.

It was Awaziem’s first league start since December 18, 2021, in a 3-1 home loss to Adana Demirspor.

Prior to the game at Kayserispor, Awaziem had been benched in Alanyaspor’s last four league games.

It is big disaster not having awaziem in the main team for this Ghana game.. we need our best legs for this game esp when some have not been active.. a player like Collins scored the winning goal for his club on Saturday and he is also not in the main list.. sanusi has gone back to the bench for Porto, with the availability of Wendell at left back for Porto.. I think this list came to early and cerozo was a bit too quick to draw the list.. akupugoma not in the list at all is another terrible decision, a German bungesliga defender with his likely to qualify for the championship league. I understand he was on the bench for some time but he played on Saturday.. and if he plays the coming weekend against leaders Bayern and does well which is likely It will be another error not to include him..

Are you sure Akpoguma still wants to play for Nigeria or focus on his club?

I am surprised that CSN refused to mention anything about Maduka Okoye heroics in their away match to Vitesse last Friday. E be like say the guy no greeze their fingers with Dollars or why the silence about his performance in that match.

It will be a good morale booster for us fans because as it stands currently, he is our only hope in goal against Ghana because all our other GKs are warming the bench in their respective clubs.

SCORENigeria summarised his performance as copied below:

The widely criticised Super Eagles shot stopper certainly did his confidence a world of good by stopping a penalty to help Dutch club Sparta Rotterdam beat home team Vitesse Arnhem by the odd goal. Okoye was also hit by an object from the stands, which caused the game to be halted in stoppage time, and also had to confront a pitch invader all in one game. Thankfully, it was a much-needed win for the Rotterdam club to ease relegation fears as they are too close for comfort hovering around the drop zone.

I take God beg all right thinking SE fans to please forgive this patriotic son of the soil on the AFCON ouster and welcome him back as our no 1 Goalie for that double header o. I still insist that the goal conceded against Tunisia wasn’t his fault at all, Ndidi ought to carry the greater part of the blame shared by Aina but me see don forgive the whole team and technical team for not being able to outscore the depleted Tunisians that night

My dear, I won’t blame Okoye for that goal we conceded against Tumisia. I will blame Aina who yielded possession and made no effort to get it back. How on earth will you allow your opponent take a shot from that distance. Its ridiculous. He didn’t even have a clear view of the ball going by his movement when the shot was taken. Its insane.

    • A flash in the pan. One good performance doesn’t necessarily mean he has become the best in the world. He needs consistency in his game not the occasional once in a while ok performance that your referring to.
He should sit the Ghana game out in my own opinion.

  • Im referring to maduka Okoye and not awaziem. If awaziem is back on the field of play then ofcourse he should be part of the team.
Leon balogun has been out injured this season but as soon as he recovers he back on the pitch, why, because of his wealth of experience. The same applies to awaziem, he has experience playing for the Super Eagles and his presence in the team will be useful if he is fit again.
As much as I also want akpoguma in the team, I have to admit that he has little experience playing for the Super Eagles as compared to other defenders in the team. So he has to be introduced gradually if that is the new coach wants.
There must have been a reason coach rohr stopped inviting him to the team. We are yet to find out why such an active player in the bundesliga is not being invited to the Super Eagles. But the Super Eagles need more capable central defenders in the team.
