Taiwo Awoniyi has expressed his disappointment after Coventry City suffered a 1-0 home defeat to fellow Premier League newcomers Hull City.
Frank Lampard’s side were beaten by the Tigers at the CBS Arena on Saturday, with Liam Millar scoring the decisive goal eight minutes from time.
Coventry enjoyed good spells in the encounter and created a number of scoring opportunities but were unable to make them count.
Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis produced an impressive save to deny Awoniyi from close range in the first half, while the Nigeria international also headed another opportunity wide.
Awoniyi Rues Missed Chances
Awoniyi admitted Coventry paid the price for their failure to convert their opportunities.
“We did quite good in terms of having the ball but unfortunately they had that great counter-attack and they took their chance. It is on us to take our chances as well,” the striker told Coventry’s media.

Awoniyi also praised Tzolakis for his performance between the sticks.
“The chances that we had were the ones that the goalkeeper saved. I wanted to put my foot in and that was one of the clear chances that we had, and I think the keeper was brilliant for them,” Awoniyi added.
“We just have to take our chances, as I said earlier. We didn’t take ours and they took theirs. It was a disappointing defeat for us.
“As a team, we played better and had more of the ball, but at the end the goal counts. We just have to penetrate the box more and create more chances.”

Coventry are still searching for their first Premier League victory of the season after two games.
The Sky Blues will face a difficult test in their next league outing when they travel to Manchester City.
