Former Nigerian youth international, Taiwo Awoniyi will be striving to score his second Bundesliga goal of the season when Mainz 05 visit Eintracht Frankfurt at the Commerzbank Arena today (Saturday), Completesports.com reports.
Awoniyi was on from the start while the striker also saw full action when Mainz despite being the home team suffered a 1-0 loss to Hoffenheim in a Bundesliga game at the Opel Arena last weekend.
The striker who had a goal disallowed rued the scoring chances he and team-mates wasted in Mainz’s defeat to Hoffenheim, admitted disappointment with their recent poor form and called for a quick response from everyone.
“This is a huge disappointment for all of us. We should have decided the outcome of the game in the first half but we didn’t take our chances.” The loanee Liverpool forward said.
Mainz have yet to win since the restart. The 05ers’ 1-0 loss to Hoffenheim means they have dropped 12 of the last 15 possible points and they could find themselves sucked into the promotion-relegation play-off place.
22-year-old Awoniyi has hit the back of the net on just one occasion after making ten appearances in the German Bundesliga for Mainz where he is currently playing on loan.
