Babangida: How Super Eagles Can Overcome Ghana

Former Nigeria winger Tijani Babangida has revealed how the team can conquer perennial rivals Ghana in the 2022 World Cup playoff, reports Completesports.com.

The two West African giants will do battle later this month with the eventual winner assure of a place in Qatar 2022.

Ghana will host the first leg on March 25 at the Cape Coast Stadium, with the reverse fixture scheduled for the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja four days later.

Babangida believes the key to beating Ghana lies with the technical crew selecting the right strikers for the crucial qualifiers.

“There is no doubt that the current strikers in the Super Eagles are not doing badly in Europe,” Babanginda told Ghanasoccernet.

“The likes of Osimhen, Ighalo, Sadiq and others are banging the goals for their respective clubs and it’s a sign of good things to come for the team.”

“Again, this will definitely give Eguavoen a serious headache in terms of who to select for the game against Ghana.

“If he gets the right strikers to start, then the team will pick the ticket for Qatar.”

Considering their current form, work rate, tactics and goal scoring abilities, it is Odion, Osimhen, Awoniyi and or Onuachu striking against the black stars.

    • Hass,
That’s ok with their scoring abilities, what about players for the midfield?

  • Presh 2 years ago

Keep exposing your strengths to your opponents. We don’t learn lessons. It should be mind games. Also Ighalo is not needed you saying Ighalo. Press should stop also Cerezo should minimise tactics with opponents.

    • God bless you Presh. You just said what was in my mind. Let them continue running their mouth for the opponent. According to this report he was speaking talking to Ghanasoccernet. By the time they gather all the information from them in form of interview the opponent now know both the strength and the weakness of Super Eagles.
I thought this guys get sense before . It’s now I discovered that majority of them lack common sense.

      • Presh 2 years ago

Thanks Godsate, Cerezo is very Eloquent, and he should by now limit his tactics analysis, and also media guys they are the worst in this situation, the way Tunisia taught Nigeria a lesson, I thought by now they will have sense, later they will blame Maduka Okoye:

      • Moses Inyang 2 years ago

        Ighalo is needed

  • Hassy 2 years ago

@Remi, if the Super Eagles coaching crew are serious by that I mean Eguavoen, Amuneke, Yusuf mostly, Olise, Aribo, Amoo should be the key in the midfield. These guys can confidently handle midfield affairs anytime. But where Olise and Amoo are not available, Eze, Ndidi could be invited. I, completely would kick against any invitation extended to Frank Oyenka and Iheanacho, they are Sunday Sunday players on the SE jersey. For the world cup, we need sure players.

Afcon really exposed Kelechi Iheanacho as the lad could hardly trap ball in front of goal. That really affected our prospects in Cameroon.

    • Shubby 2 years ago

      Who is amoo?

  • Dey wil keep on making the same mistake . Ghana guys wil play all the attackers out of the game u wil see . The coaches shud learn from wat tunnia did to them at afcon. They shud learn from falcon ….. .anyway the game wil be won or lost in the 1st leg. The second leg is a mear formality

    • Igbekun Abo 2 years ago

I beg to differ. The second leg will be crucial. The winner of the first leg can still lose on aggregate. Nigeria should be extra careful in the second leg.

      • Na wa for people sef . U don’t understand logic.or propaganda… The first leg wil end 1 : 1 and the second leg 0 : 0…….hope u got it.. away goal rule.

We should stop exposing our strength or weakness to the Ghanaians while we have no clue of what is going on with our opponent side. l am the sure that our opponent is reading about who is playing and not playing on our side right here. Why don’t we discuss who is playing the striking position for Ghana so that we can discuss who to mark him out as Egueavon did against Egypt.?

    • Presh 2 years ago

      Well said

    • KangA 2 years ago

Rest assured my man. These are mere superficial comments. The coaches are not obliged to take them. These comments are not golden revelations of tactics. You forget that Naija has the highest concentration of soccer coaches in the world–at least one million (certified and uncertified)! How can the head coach take advice from such a multitude of unofficial assistants?

Although some of the comments provide deep insight, they can hardly be classified as top secrets.

  • That’s still ok @Hassy, now we have 6 out of 1st 11, what about defence?

  • Ololo 2 years ago

Nigerian should relax, babaginda is not part of the coaching crew and only expressing his thoughts on the game like we are all doing.. cerozo has reduced his interviews and it should be that way..

For the game our choice of strikers is key but also those in midfield and defense matter too..

If it is going to be a ,23 man list, the trio of ighalo, oshimem, and Denis are good to go, if it is an expanded 28 man list then, Sadiq should be added, he is the hottest Nigerian striker at the moment, an onuachu can be considered too.

Our Wingers are where we must get it right.. because wing play has always been our pattern.. Simon, Sam chuks, lookman , musa and sareenhen bazee ( from Augburg) he scored a good goal over the weekend. Ejuke with the Russia crisis I doubt if he would be ready. If our winger play well we will qualify

    • I think coaching crew must concenterate on defensive side , because Super Eagles have been lacking defensive mentality for a long time ; Eguavoen and Amuneke ought to have change defensive tactic and mentality of SE players with giving instructions to the defensive midfielders they must exit still constant on thier sides that they must not move to the deep center or moving for attackting , but they must constant to tackle rival’s counter attackt or tackle any dangerous attackts; or rival’s shooting from distance. On attcking side coaching crew ought to give strikers to press on the rival’s defence in order to exploit the chances to score goals.

    • Hottest Nigerian striker in laliga 2..?

Oga, Onuachu and Dennis are ahead of him . They’ve been in the team too.

  • Hanssy 2 years ago

Remi, defenders hm.. Ekong, Balogun (if fit) or Omerua, Aina, Zaidu in the right and left back. Sentiments apart, these are tested and trusted.

  • That’s alright @Hanssy, what about the keeper and the SE bench?

  • Hanssy 2 years ago

Super Eagles 28-man list after extensive delibetation:

Keepers: Uzoho, Akpeyi, Okoye and Yakubu.

Defenders: Ekong, Balogun, Omerua, Aina, Zaidu and Akpoguma.

Midfielders: Etebo, Aribo, Olise, Amoo, Ndidi, Iwobi and Eze

Wingers: V.Moses, Moses S., Bazee, Chukwueze, Ejuke and Lookman

Strikers: Odion, Awoniyi, Osimhen, Dennis and Desser.

I shall be sending in the first eleven list in due course. Thanks for your time.

  • Uwc @Hanssy. The list becomes all important since we’ve only 22 days to our first match. Advise us on the 1st 11 asap.

  • Ololo 2 years ago

Oisea, and eze do not have a Nigeria passport while add them to the list

  • Soetan 2 years ago

@Hanssy, was that question for you?

  • Shubby 2 years ago

    Hanssy, is it eberechi eze?

  • Olusegun.B. 2 years ago

The coach is aware that it’s a must that the Super Eagles qualifies for the world cup as the rivalry with Ghana is re-enacted. Ghana on the other hand would want to hear up because it’s Nigeria which is so funny seeing how they behaved at the last nations cup.
This play off is not about a coach saying his team deserves to go to the world cup more than Ghana ( even though I believe the coach couldn’t have said this , unless it’s CS who Framed such words) , it’s about you have to earn it . As there’s no room for errors in the final slot. I believe Super Eagles are going to that world cup as the players including Oßhimen wants to in other to compensate for his absence from the Afcon and again it would be a disgrace to him should he not go while his teammates at Napoli ends up at the tournament . Therefore oshimen needs the world cup as well as the other players . These crops of super Eagles players which include ihenancho , Ekong, Balogun, Aribo , Bassey, Dessers et Al need this world cup . So they must qualify .

I know it’s gonna be a tough two way match and I know coach Eguavon and Amuneke would not want to fail as this is to prove continuously for the appointment of Local coaches into the senior team . They need this world cup seriously .
