Balogun Admits It’s Tough Fighting For Shirt With Omeruo, Troost-Ekong

Balogun has admitted that he has a tough task on his hands to displace Kenneth Omeruo or William Troost-Ekong from the Super Eagles starting eleven, reports.

Following limited playing opportunities at Brighton & Hove Albion which saw him play only eight Premier League matches and bagginh ten appearances in all competitions in the 2018-2019 season, Balogun owns up to also facing tough competition for playing time in the national team.

“I think there is always pressure. We are actually five centre-backs if you count Semi Ajayi, because he is also very capable of playing in that position, and also Chidozie Awaziem.

“Of course, there is pressure, if you compare me to Kenneth and William, they definitely had more game time this season which is mentally an advantage.

“But then, I think whenever I played, I did my job. I am lucky that the coach always has put his trust in me which takes the pressure away.

“I always feel big trust whenever I come to the Super Eagles which helps me to stay on top of my game.

“But definitely, I know I have to do more than before because there are two players (Omeruo and Troost-Ekong) who both had great seasons, very, very well.

“Again, it is the coach’s decision at the end. It is about us as a team, I am not a player who will make any kind of trouble.

“If this should be the case, I will definitely be disappointed, but I think everyone wants to win the trophy, that must be our ultimate goal,” Balogun defender added.

This is a true talk. It is good for the success of the team, if a player could accept that another player has an edge over him. It’s a statement of fact
