Barnes – Avoiding Bottom Three Key

Burnley’s Ashley Barnes says staying out of the bottom three courtesy of Saturday’s 3-1 win at Brighton could be huge for the team.

The Clarets walked out at the Amex knowing three points were vital following Cardiff City’s 2-1 victory away at Southampton and did the business, with Barnes netting their third goal from the penalty spot following a brace from Chris Wood.

Saturday’s result saw Sean Dyche’s men move up to 15th in the standings and extend their unbeaten run to seven games unbeaten in the league.

Having briefly slipped into the bottom three, Barnes, who has scored in his last three appearances, has highlighted the importance of Saturday’s result. “It was a massive win and we needed it,” he said.

“We heard before the game that Cardiff had won so we knew it was going to be a massive game that we needed to win. “The lads had seen it beforehand and informed us so we knew that we had to win. “It just made it an even bigger game and we knew we had to win, otherwise we’d have stayed in the bottom three.”
