Belgian Jupiler: Onuachu Scores Again, Dessers Benched In Genk’s Win Vs Charleroi

Paul Onuachu continued his impressive goal scoring form for Genk after netting in their 2-1 home win against Sporting Charleroi, in the Belgian Jupiler on Sunday, Completesports.com reports.

Onuachu, who featured for the Super Eagles against Algeria in last week’s friendly, put Genk 1-0 in the 25th minute.

Former Premier League star Saido Berahino equalised for Charleroi on 48 minutes before Joakim Maehle scored the winner for Genk in the 63rd minute.

Onuachu’s Nigerian teammate Cyriel Dessers was an unused substitute for Genk.

The former Heracles Armelo striker has two goals in six league appearances for Genk and last scored in September.

Sunday’s goal means Onuachu tops the scorers chart in the Belgian top flight with eight goals.

He has now scored in five consecutive league games and has netted seven goals in his last five games.

With the win against Charleroi, Genk now occupy 10th place on 13 points in the league table.

Paulo… Carry go. People wey no know say football be like assembly drawing will say you are not effective, forgetting that the whole is the sum of its parts. Some people will think we have not seen wingers like Tijani Babangida, Garba Lawal, Emmanuel Amuneke, Finidi George, Kayode Keshinro, Friday Elaho, Jide Oguntuase, Bawa Abdullahi, Mohammed Manga, Festus Odini before… they will think Chukwueze Samuel and Kalu Samuel are the best thing after slice bread on the wings in Nigeria football that we have seen… Keep putting up the numbers brother. Stats don’t lie… If Rohr like let him continue to play ineffective French-Styled lone attacking system. Even Italian Catanaccio system is better and more effective than the pseudo-defensive-fail we continue to play for a pattern. I dey your back… Refer naysayers to your strike against almighty Egypt… hahaha. Let them say!

My brother simple cross they can’t put in. Crossing like they are still in under-17. miss the days of Finidi, Babaginda, etc who will put in a nice cross into the box for late Yekini to bang in. kalu and chukuwuze are selfish in there play

I have said it before, Paul Onuachu is not a bad player, but simply does not fit into the current stlye of the Super Eagles. And when Sprots Junalist Mumi Alao asked Genet Rohr if he is going to adjust his style to suit the giant striker before the Algeria matach. Genet Rohr spoke emphatically that he is not willing to adjust his style to any one palyer, but instead the players are supposed to adjust to suit the current style of play.

Don’t forget that Paul scored for the Super Eagles on his debut in few seconds of the match against Egypt which was the only goal we score in the match. When asked how is got the goal, he said the goal came based on the plan they had with the coach.

So that means, Genet Rohr knows, how to get goals from Paul, but, since he has now cultivated a different style of play which favors most of his current crop of players and are already getting used to it. He does not want to disrupt the team chemistry upfront to switch to Pual Onuachu’s stlye. And remember his main striker is Victor for now, Paul is only being considered as a backup. So the main purpose of bringing Paul Onuachu to the Algeria friendly was to see if he could adjust to the currents style of the Eagles, but he couldn’t. He also couldn’t fit in during the Nations cup. But Ighalo florished with this Genet Rohr pattern and so also Victor, so he is not willing to change it because of Paul.

So I know he will score more goals for his club, maybe over 20 this season but, I doubt if Genet Rohr will call him again because there are several other options who can suit Rohr current style. Kelachi , Dessers and even Maja though not yet tested.

I wish Paul more goals to his boot. I also support Rohr as long as we are seeing the result of what he is building.

  • Come and score in a top 5 league let’s see…

    • What are you trying to imply. that he is not capable of doing that in a TOP 5 league. please let us know your top 5 league. guess you didn’t watch the game, will advise you watch the highlight of the goal. Even the wingers presented at the friendlies could not give him the cross he headed in.

I watched the match and saw the Onuachu’s goal. Truth be told, its going to be almost impossible for a striker to get that kind of free space to operate at international games. International games are always very tight, not enough space to operate, Any player that wanna be a success at the national team level must be very good at close control as well as operate in very tight situation. This where Onuachu struggles.

    • JimmyBall 4 years ago

… @GLORY. Let’s cut this guy some slack, I believe he is taking the criticisms in good faith and will do him good to adapt his game which I am sure he knows… an individual is always his own best critic… Let’s keep encouraging our players to be better, he has proved himself in Denmark before Belgium. We have Victor Osimhen but what if injury hits him and he is not fit to play. We need flexibility in our play and backups for Osimhen. You don’t take just one centre forward to a tournament so it will pay us if aside Osimhen. We could make two further decisions between those who are able to rackup goal scoring like Simy and this guy. Sadiq is also there but uptill now Rohr has not given much chance to Simy or Sadiq and we don’t know why that is so! We need attackers that are also a bit imposing and strong for the advantages that come with it…

    • Igbekun Abo 4 years ago

What a load of rubbish. Was it not the same international football that Onuachu scored against Egypt. Excuses excuses. That is all they can come up with.

  • Kudos to BABA GERNOT ROHR for calling this young man to replace OSIMHEN.

    Atleast there’s “PEACE” on this forum now;
had it been ROHR did not invite this young man to come and humble his praise singers by now @omo9ja and his “shallow mind” troop (smart & reggressive minds) would have started pouring curses on Rohr for not inviting him.

That is y i want ROHR to invite that their “BELOW AVERAGE” AZUBUIKE & AZEEZ to come and play let’s see wonders…

U pple aren’t ashame of yourseves.

Is it not a national team that has THOMAS PARTEY?

Is it not a country that has GUEYE?

Is it not a national team that has KESSIE?

Is it not a national team that has KEITA?

    How about ELNENY, NAKAMBA, ASAMOA?

YET WE DON’T HEAR ANY HYPE FROM THEIR MATURED AND SENSITIVE FANS….

THEY ALLOW THIS BOYS TO MATURE AND FULLY TURN TO PLAYERS THAT BIG TEAMS SPLASH MILLIONS OF POUNCE ON.

OUR OWN THE COSTLIEST IS A LITTLE BOY OF 21YRS YET WE SING PRAISES OF A 35-40 yrs MAN CLAIMING TO BE 23 AS IF HE’S THE NEW T. ALCANATARA.

Dessers should be judged with the same conditions too…Dessers is not playing because Onuachu puts him on the bench. Both of them shouldnt make SE list or Onuachu should continue to be ahead of him both in the SE and club.

Besides, why is Rohr not looking to bring in Maja, Sadiq, Simy and Nwaekeme?
Why was Azuibuike Okechukwu not invited too, Is he injured?

    Please someone explain

@Jimmy, bro stile or pattern anyhow you call am unuocho is not a good footballer. and Belgium league is not a league Nigeria should be looking when inviting a player. that league is not better than northern African league’s, we are not serialoane, Uganda, or, mali we are Nigeria for Christsake we cannot be looking around for anywhere a goal is been scored. you are a baller according to the way you comment most times which I do enjoy, but be honest apart from goal or no goal when a player controls or moves with the ball you can tell how good he is or not. as for all I have seen, unuocho is not close to the standard we are looking for. I am beginning to write Belgium league off bcos the league na scam, onyekuru scored over 30 goals there and still struggle with the eagles, osihmen scored 20 goals or more there and still struggle with the eagles in is first games until he moved to lille befor the level change, Ezekiel esiti apkala etc.. meaning that league cannot be trusted. talking about striking for eagles, unuocho is not the first striker that will be abadoned even if he scores everyday for club, rohr shouldn’t be tempted at all bcos we have seen their types befor. Anthony ujah was scoring every week in Germany, yet he was like a shadow in the keshi eagles team, even simy befor the world cup score goals in seria A yet played about 4 games for eagles no level. ideye is also that type; what separated him is his ability to play behind emenike, aiyegbeni though maybe the eagles second or third highest goal scorer in Naija history thanks to LG cup and penalty shots, in general was not the fans favourite and didn’t really make any impact that can be reminised. the truth is we have osihmen and maja, iheanacho. terem moffi and tolu is the nest we want to see, sadiq cant compete from second division almeria, simy have been tested before, he is not very eagles as you are thinking if not rohr for drop ighalo for am, akpom cannot compete from div two as well. rohr should limits is choice of supermarket to a particular level in order to reduce the headache. if rohr limits his self for osimehm, maja, simy(based on form) iheanacho,. The likes of dessers tolu and moffi should still get chances, any one who proves good fine, who doesn’t bye bye. no time for dreamers at all. in conclusion let me remind us of how strikers used to come into eagles and win hearts those days, and their name goes to the streets immediately aftermatch. apart from baba rashidi and ikpeba or kanu which are most popular strikers ,

aghahuwa came in 2000 a year after u20 1999. he scored goals in two three occasions to move us forward without waiting for 90 minutes. after then began to do more and became regular

agali came and scored alot header from corner kicks and open play

osaze came in 2004 afcon banged four goals and became our love.

martins came against Ireland bang goal and repeated it against Rwanda and more.
utaka came in banged goals against cameroun and many more.
ike uche came and started scoring goals one of his goals against Southafrica took us to 2010 wcup

emenike first afcon, won golden boot

ighalo first afcon, won golden boot. even Nigerians where still not satisfied.

obasi, though didnt last! but shown quality and also scores one against Egypt and more

obina nsofo came in and also proved alot he also have powerful goals to be reminded of.

now tell me Jimmy where does unuocho fit in this category? unless he is ur relative, if he is please help me tell am say National team nor be by force, he should keep enjoying his club football the guy liver nor carry am at all, you see the look in his face when playing for eagles you we see the tension and fear in his face like wen small pikin want fight person wey first they bit am before lol.

I still don’t understand this. This Onuachu is a hot cake at his club side but at the national team under coach Rohr, the striker failed to score.

What is going on Oga Rohr and his fans?
This is an eye opener. Everybody agrees that Super Eagles is bigger than the coaches in charge of the team presently?

If so, we can not continue that way. I omo9ja can not open my eyes koro koro like this as if we are happy with what the coach is doing with the team. The way he played too friendlies shows his capacity.

Nonetheless, if we don’t come out and do the talking now, it may be too late tomorrow. Afcon and world cup qualifiers are moving closer every day.

NFF, Mr. Rohr and his fans are not bigger than Nigeria period. We hire and we hire. It is simple as that. No more, no less, all we are saying is, we are not satisfied with the work of the coaches of the Super Eagles shekena. God bless Nigeria!!!

    • Dr Banks 4 years ago

@Omo9ja, your thought process never cease to amaze me. Are you for real or just love being controversial. Blaming Rohr for Onoachu’s lack of goals in SE is the height of madness. Was it Rohr who stopped him from scoring despite all the chances and game time afforded to Onuachu at AFCON while Ighalo was highest scorer? Even our dear Osimhen didn’t taste action until 3rd place match bcos of him. Did Rohr gave a different training to other SE scorers separately or was Onoachu playing with different set of players that made him not to get any quality assist? How many assist did Onuachu himself give? Did you ever see any valuable contributions made by him in any match he has ever played? Didn’t you notice during the Algeria friendly that it was Iwobi who was charging at the goalkeeper and defenders…………I can go on and on endlessly. It’s high time you accept that your so called Onoachudowsky is a flop in SE, too sluggish and useless for our style of play.  WE have seen enough of him in SE and I wish him good luck in his club

lolzz!! which one is “Onoachudowsky” now!
but seriously, onauchu is a great player but he does not also fit the SE team. truth be told if onauchu benches desser then desser could be dropped especially with others doing well even in better leagues

    • @kingston you made the point there. “dropped especially with others doing well even in better leagues”

BETTER LEAGUES That’s the key word Thank you.

I am not knocking Paul Onuachu down but, What do Belgium teams Achieve in Europe?. The last time a Belgium team did well in Europe was Anderlecht and that was many moons ago. also lets take into account the quality of opposition Onuachu is scoring against in Belgium. He needs to prove himself in Big 5 Leagues in europe then if he keeps scoring at this rate I will eat my words. Thanks Guys

P.s For him to be benching Dessers shows that Dessers needs to really improve but in saying that he will bring more to SE because he is Much More faster than Onuachu.

Anyway I think we are sorted with Osimhen leading the line. Then Simy or Kelechi Iheanacho can be Back up if need be. Based on the Level of Defenders these guys are Facing in Italy and England respectively as we know the best defenders player in Either England or Italy

My people BIG 5 Leagues in Europe is not Moimoi oooooo .

  • If this guy will score goals for the super eagles, it’s in Rohr’s hand. Rohr is a commander with sophiscated weapons but he doesn’t know how to use them.
Why are these guys performing at least averagely and scoring for their clubs but labour so hard to hit just a shot on target at international duties?
As much as we appreciate our Coach and want him to continue with his job, he must do more tactical wise to take the team forward and make them dreadful on international duty.
