The 29-year-Ryan Bertrand says he asked Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl for videos so he could get up to speed quicker when fully fit. England international Bertrand, old underwent a minor back operation that was only expected to keep him sidelined for a couple of weeks, but problems during his recovery kept him out of action until early February. During his time in the treatment room, the left-back revealed he asked Hasenhuttl, who took charge on December 5, for videos and information about the Austrian’s style of play to get up to speed quicker when back fit.
He told the Daily Echo: “I actually asked for the videos. I said to him that whilst I’m away and not participating in the daily meetings, because of a different schedule, I’d like to get some footage on his style of play and his expectations.
“I wanted to start mentally processing it and it worked well. It was a new manager and a new regime, and I love learning.” Since Bertrand’s return to the first-team fold, the Saints have picked up victories against Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton.
