Hasenhuttl Not Resting On Laurels

Southampton are not back in action until the end of the month but Ralph Hasenhuttl says there won’t be any let up from his players.

The Saints claimed an impressive 2-1 victory over Tottenham at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday, a result that has moved them up to 16th in the Premier League standings and two points clear of the relegation zone.

However, the South Coast club are not back in action until March 30 when they travel to The Amex to take on fellow strugglers Brighton, with the gap in their fixture schedule coming due to the international break and the fact they have already been eliminated from the FA Cup.

The break arguably comes at a bad time for Southampton, as they were beginning to build some momentum after winning two of their previous three games, while they also delivered a positive performance when narrowly losing to Manchester United at the start of the month.

Hasenhuttl is keen to keep that positive momentum going over the next few weeks and he believes the best way to do that is by keeping the intensity up in training. “During the three weeks they will have time to rest but the important signal is that we tell them it is not gone now and that it is still a fight we have to give because the other opponents are only two points away,” the Austrian was quoted as saying by the Daily Echo. “Cardiff are only two points behind us and if we lost to Tottenham we would have been under the line and so it is not the moment to rest.

It is not the moment to lean back. It is the moment to take this time.”
