Sheffield Move Closer To McNair Swoop

Sheffield United are reportedly set to make a £5million swoop to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Paddy McNair this summer. The 24-year-old endured a disappointing season at the Riverside Stadium after joining in a £5m from Sunderland 12 months ago, making 23 appearances in all competitions.

McNair was used mainly in a defensive role by former Boro boss Tony Pulis with the Northern Ireland international consistently stressing that he prefers to operate in a midfield role. There seemed to be a possibility that the former Manchester United man could resurrect his career on Teesside with Jonathan Woodgate taking over as head coach at Boro this summer.

But reports claim the Championship side will listen to offers for McNair and it appears that Blades boss Chris Wilder sees him as a player with potential, while his versatility also appeals. Celtic have also been linked with the player, but it is being reported that Wilder will look to get a deal done quickly by matching Boro’s valuation and the player’s wage demands.
