Boboye: Akwa United Must Approach Every Game As Cup Final

Akwa United head coach Kennedy Boboye has challenged his players to be ready for the battle ahead as they look to win a first Nigeria Professional Football League title.

The Promise Keepers sit at the top of the log with 10 games remaining before the end of the campaign.

Having set a new club and NPFL record of playing 18 games without a defeat, the Promise Keepers are poised to further their fine form against Katsina United on Sunday.

“We have ten more games to play before the end of this season. For us to achieve our primary target, we must collectively approach each of those games as we would a cup final,”Boboye told the club website.

“Every match is important and we have to approach every game with the right mental attitude. We resolved at the beginning of the season to take it one game at a time and it’s been working for us.

“I’m impressed with our achievmenets so far but we still have a lot of work to do in all our remaining games. We need one hundred percent concentration and focus in each of the remaining ten games beginning from this weekend’s clash against Katsina United.

“We need to be at the top of our game in Katsina to ensure we get a positive result that will help consolidate our position on the NPFL standings “.

Kennedy Boboye, a Nigerian ex-international who also played in Europe, eminently qualified as a coach obtaining a relevant coaching badges before coming home to practice. He is currently on his way to his 2nd league title with 2 different clubs in a space of 3-4 years.

But some overated 94 squad people are too big to coach in the NPFL, they’ll rather sit wherever, waste years idling with empty CVs and claim nobody wants to give them jobs because they are black, but expect National team jobs to be flung at them JUST BECAUSE they were part of the 94 squad, while some others will wake up one day and tell us someone who has had nothing to do with coaching 6 whole years after retirement is the right man to leads us to the 2022 WC simply because he retired from international football (SIX YEARS AGO) with 100 caps…..LMAOOooo. Isnt it all interesting..?

    This is Nigeria….!

  • So we have this kind of person but we refuse to employ him as our first assistant coach….

Imagine akwa United playing 18 matches unbeaten in Nigeria were “ojoro, mago-mago, wuru-wuru” is the order of the Day….

    This man deserves some credit…
