Brazil Assistant Coach Xavier: Iwobi Is Nigeria’s Danger Man

Brazil assistant coach Cleber Xavier has picked Alex Iwobi as Nigeria’s danger man ahead of Sunday meetings between the two countries.

The international friendly encounter will take place at the Singapore International Stadium, Kallang.

Nigeria’s only previous meeting with the Selecao also came in 2003, when goals from Gil, Luis Fabiano and Adriano Leite resulted in a 0-3 defeat for the Super Eagles in Abuja.

This time around, Iwobi has been picked out as Nigeria’s danger man.

“At Nigeria, Iwobi plays more of an inside role as a second striker than at Everton,” Xavier told the BBC.

“He is the link in the counter attack, drags opponents out of position and infiltrates well in the box.

“Nigeria defend less than Senegal. The Senegalese are more about positioning with Gueye marking strongly.”

  • Great analysis! In essence, he’s saying while Senegal tries to remain strong defensively, Nigeria is more about offensive play. They are often unafraid and like to take a go at the opponent, no matter the pedigree. These guys have really studied our pattern and realise Iwobi is the pivot (starting point) of the attack. But he sure doesn’t know about Aribo yet. Really sad Samuel Kalu will not be at Singapore on Sunday. I rate him so highly as I used to for Moses back then. His injury at AFCON partly contributed to why we didn’t go past Algeria in the semis.

I’m quite sure that Dennis would have a good game playing along side Osimhen and Chukwueze’ but on the contrary i think Simon should start this game in a 4-4-2 set up with olayinka playing with Osimhen in the first half_ just to contain the over zealous approach of the Brazilians and then stink them in the second half with the pace of the Two mentioned above in our usual 4-3-2-1.
Just another internet coach speaking here. Ma 2 kobo tot

  • But I tot people believe Rohr loves to defend…here are the real coaches

    • Dr. Drey 5 years ago

      Hahahahahaha…dont mind them. Internet coaches….agents of darkness…!

Rohr plays defensive football….LMAO. I’ve asked them severally to point out 1 match where we packed the bus all the way and i’m still waiting for an answer.

To them a 4231 formation with one Anchorman (Ndidi) and one box to box midfielder (etebo) is a defensive formation.

We play defensive football yet we have such a high win ratio and a goal average of almost 2 goals per match…LMAO.

Listen to me you blood-thisty agent of the night.
Your blood sucking days will soon be over Dr Dracula.
I soon as I find your coffin, where you rest during the day, I will come over to poke a Cross-dagger straight into your heart to send you straight to
where you belong so we Angels in the forum can be rid over agents like you once and for all.

For the very last time, Frankenstine, Rohr – has – failed.

        • Dr. Drey 5 years ago

Hahahahaaha……You have tried it when your name was Ashy…you failed….you tried again when you changed it to simon….you still failed.

Isnt it only a madman you does the same thing all of the time and expects different results….? LMAO.

Keep looking for my coffin all over the place till you meet your demise. Your tombstone is already laid….it only remains for you to crawl inside it and it will be sealed forever….LMAO

  • i believe a 3-5-2 formation will go a long way for us…because our main defenders are not on ground..so a permanent back 3,den 2 wing backs who can track back to hlp as well as attack also..den ndidi sit a little back among d three midfilders to hlp d defenders in sniffing dangers..den d remaining 2 midfilders Aribo nd Iwobi can do the harm,by supporting the two strikers..while aribo also hlping ndidi in part of the defensive work..den the 2 danger man Oshimen and chukwueze or dennis cause havoc to deir defense..
maybe half time the coach can tweak changes via players nd the formation..

This people have studied us well. They know our players. But they are confused with the abundance of talents at our disposal. Just 2 days ago, Marquinhos came out to point out Oshimen as the Threat. Also a Top Brazilian Sport Journalist came out to warn the Brazilian Defenders about Chukwueze. Now these Ass. Coach thinks it’s Oshimen. Like they don’t even know the danger ARIBO and Ever solid Ndidi can cause them. Even me, I can’t come out to say this particular player is our star man in the present day Super Eagles. All thanks to Coach Rohr.

Hope Coach GR too is studying how to cage there all star team too o. I believe our boys will give a good account of themselves against the 5-times World Champs.

This is the Difference between great assistance coach and an average Imama and the NFF that playing politics with our football.

I hope Oga Rohr won’t say my team is young after the match. We have what it takes to beat Brazil on Sunday. No more excuses. Good luck our coach. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • Listen and listen good…we are looking forward to good football from our team… we have like 3 to 3 player’s out already and Brazil are coming with Thier full squad… wether we win or lose..only thing that can get me mad with the coach and his team is if we are out played for 90mins.

  • Olusegun. B 5 years ago

It’s evident that Brazil is actually scared of Super Eagles with so much hype on this the danger man of the team
What they need to realize I’d that the entire team I
E the Super Eagles team are a menace . They know countino, Neymar, willian, Allison, et Aland guess what, they are not afraid of anyone of them .
Sp therefore keep mentioning danger men and formations you’ll understand that there’s more yoSuper Eagles than expected!!!

    Lessons to learn from Brazil:

Brazil as we all know are 5 times World champions, with numerous other footballing laurels and have tons and tons of world class players, with almost every league or cup winner in Europe having at least one player of Brazilian origin.

Currently they are ranked no 3 in the world while we are ranked 30 places below them. But see how much details they have of our team and how much respect they have shown to the eagles even though on paper, this can be taken to be a miss match.

But if it were Nigeria that was about to play a team ranked 30 places below it, say honduras, albania or UAE…….what you will hear from fans and media alike would the boasts, brags and plenty of arrogance. A draw or loss against any of these teams and all heavens will break loose….but for us, it wouldn’t be out of place if we defeat Brazil. Afterall……we be mates…..as someone has even said here before that player for player, we are on the same level with Brazil..Lolz

Huge lesson for us to learn from the masters of the game….. Adequate preparations, humility, respect…!

    • Brazilian fans also despise Nigeria and Senegal. I agree with you that we should not take any country for granted regardless of ranking but don’t present the situation as if all Brazilian media, fans and players showed respect to Nigeria. To some of them we are by no means no match. I wish we can listen to Neymar’s opinion about us. That guy thinks he has arrived. I just don’t like it when we generalize, leftward or rightward.

    • Peterside Udah 5 years ago

Adequate preparations and humility will not be enough for you to successfully draw blood out of the neck of any contributor of the site you sucker!
By the time we are finished we you, you will fly to Transylvania where you belong, you bat!
However long your fangs are, they will be crushed if you dare lay them on the shoulder of anyone here.
Your secret is out, agent of the night.
Soon, we shall banish you to hell to burn for all eternity where you rightly belong, Count Drey.
No matter how many hounds you send, we shall banish and send you all back to hell…

You have threatened to ban me from this site and its two years and counting and you are still here with the same threat…?

If you are tired of life because you cant get Dr. Drey, why not take the easier route to Hades – otapiapia, rather than come here and disgrace yourself time and again…Lolz.

By the way, I was told to tell you full payments have been made to the funeral parlour that will handle your matter…so you dont need to stress.
