Man United Defeat Newcastle In Carabao Cup Final To End Six-Year Trophy Drought

Manchester United defeated Newcastle United 2-0 in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final at Wembley stadium to end a six-year trophy drought.

It is their first piece of silverware since they won the Europa League under Jose Mourinho in 2017.

It could be the first trophy of a potential quadruple, with United still in the FA Cup, Europa League and still having an outside shot of winning the Premier League.

For Newcastle, their 54-year wait for a trophy – and 68 years for a domestic trophy – goes on.

Despite a bright start from Newcastle, it was United who took the lead in the 33rd minute as Casemiro rose to head home Luke Shaw’s free-kick.

On 39 minutes United doubled their lead thanks to Marcus Rashford who combined with Wout Weghorst before hitting a left-foot shot which deflected off a Newcastle player and ended at the back of the net.
