UPDATE: Troost-Ekong, Watford Gain Promotion Back To Premier League

William Troost-Ekong and his Watford teammates have won promotion back to the Premier League just nine months after they were relegated from the top flight, Completesports.com reports.

Featuring for 90 minutes, Troost-Ekong helped Watford secured the second automatic promotion spot  with a 1-0 victory over Millwall on Saturday afternoon.

Ismaila Sarr’s 11th minute penalty was enough to secure all three points and to the Premier League.

It is Watford’s fourth promotion to the Premier League, and the win against Millwall means they have equaled their record of eight consecutive home league wins.

With two games remaining in the season, Watford can still clinch the Championship title.

Although they will need Norwich, who had already sealed qualification, to fail to win either of their two remaining games.

Congratulations William Troost-Ekong! Welcome to Premier League!
It was a very well calculated decision to achieve your life dream of playing in the English Premier League, and you put in your best to actualise it. Wishing you great success in the Premier League from next season!

    • Yes Aleks, at the time I also thought it was a shrewd move – short term sacrifice for long term gain.

I am particularly happy as well for Isaac Success. I pray he plays himself back I into Super Eagles reckoning with decent performances in the premier league next season.

Yes Deo, Watford’s promotion offers great opportunity not only to William Troost-Ekong, but also Isaac Success, and Tom Dele-Bashiru. I really pray and hope that they all take great advantage of that opportunity and establish themselves as great pillars in the team. I hope that Tom recovers on time to join Troost-Ekong and Isaac during the preseason, and hopefully Isaac and Tom also secure their place in the first eleven alongside Troost-Ekong before the commencement of the new season.

Troost Ekong, songidem ooo. Congrats on securing promotion to the top flight.
Also join Deo in wishing Isaac Success all the best. His U-17 strike partner Iheanacho is the current talk of the town. Let’s hope they will motivate each other to greater heights.

Congratulations to the team and to our hero Ekong

Looking forward to watching you play EPL next season

  • Congratulations to troost ekong and the rest of the Watford team. You guys deserve to be back in the premiership. Lets see how ekong settles in with the English premier league. He is a Classy defender having played at the worldcup and in italy so the premiership wont be difficult for him to adjust to.

Congrats to Ekong and Watford. Sometimes the way up is down. He was vilified by many for his shock move to Watford. I saw it as Special assignment based on the trust the club owners had on him. And today, he has delivered. And also reuniting with his family and long dream.

Wishing you all the best next season.

When the Pozzo family looked at the entire Udinese defense in search of one defensive trojan who could return them to the top echelon of English football, they weren’t daft by singling out Troost for the huge task….and wow…did the boy not deliver…? 32 appearances from a possible 40 since joining the club, in a heavily rotated squad playing 3 games every 7-8 days, going all 90min in about 26 of them, with several MOTM nominations and awards even as a CB.

The “championship bench-warmer” according to one chronic pathological liar and impostor is now set to grace the EPL…..LMAO. That benchwarmer that played 75% of his club’s matches with several MOTM-worthy performances has successfully marshalled the meanest defense in the championship on their way up to the premier league. At a time they even claimed he is the one responsible for all the goals the SE concede until youtube highlights helped us to slap the lies out of their mouths….LMAO

“…O William son of Ekong, where art thine accusers…” LMAO.

Congratulations Bill…..my first comment on this forum after watching you very first game for Watford vs derby county was “you are way above the standard of the championship”. I and many other well-meaning Nigerians who are not blinded by hate or racial sentiments indeed are proud of you. You will finally play where you belong after journeying from Holland to Belgium to Norway to Turkey to Italy and back to England.

And congrats too to Isaac Success and Tom Dele-Bashiru. Fate has given you both another chance to grace the highest levels of football once again. Grab it with both legs when you get there.

Up next is Sadiq Umar and his Almeria side. Even though automatic promotion is almost impossible now, we wont stop praying they gain promotion to the top division via the playoffs. But its almost guaranteed that Sadiq will be making a step up with or without Almeria next season. 17 goals 17 assists last season, 24 goals 7 assists already this season with more still to come. Not many clubs in the top flight will ignore that.

Congrats to all the Naija players in the top leagues of Europe….you are all doing well…!!!

AFCON 2022…….YES WE CAN…..YES WE WILL…..!!! So help us God…!

    • Well said @Dr. Drey

sometimes we take risk in life to achieve what we want.

His move from UDINENSE in SERIE A to WATFORD in EFL CHAMPIONSHIP at first appeared to be a gamble, but later became clearer and now the much awaited dream of playing in EPL has finally come to pass.

Congrats to EKONG THE RISK TAKER.

I’LL BE WATCHING YOU IN EPL NEXT SEASON….
