Seagulls Confirm Potter Appointment

Brighton have confirmed the appointment of Graham Potter as their new head coach on a four-year deal. The 44-year-old succeeds Chris Hughton at The Amex after the Seagulls triggered his release clause with Championship club Swansea.

Potter led the Swans to a respectable 10th-place finish in the second-tier this season after making his name in Sweden, where he guided Ostersunds to promotion to the top-flight, Swedish Cup glory and a memorable run through to the knockout stages of the Europa League.

The former defender will now get an opportunity to cut his managerial teeth in the Premier League and he had no hesitation in joining Brighton after being sold on the club’s long-term vision. “I was sold by the long-term vision and passion shown by Tony Bloom, Paul Barber and Dan Ashworth,” Potter told the Brighton website.

“The ideas and plans they have for the future of this football club excited me; I am thrilled and honoured to be a part of it.” Seagulls chairman Tony Bloom was equally delighted that Brighton were able to secure the services of Potter, as he feels the brand of football he likes to play will certainly get supporters off their seats.

“We are delighted to have secured the services of one of the brightest young English coaches,” Bloom added. “Graham Potter has an excellent record of developing teams with an attractive playing style, fierce determination and a strong collective spirit.
