Brighton are hoping to nip in and secure the services of Girona’s attacking midfielder Cristian Portugues Manzanera, commonly known as Portu. The 27-year-old impressed last season in a disappointing Girona side that were relegated from La Liga after finishing 18th in the standings.
It seems likely that the man who made two appearances for Valencia in the early part of his career will be leaving, with Real Sociedad said to be a likely destination. However, the Anoeta outfit may struggle to raise the £8.8m needed to sign the player and are currently in talks to try and schedule the payments over a period of time.
Their proposed sale of Juanmi to Real Betis would also help matters as he is valued at around £5m but Portu is said wants to get any deal done by his wedding day – this Saturday. That might help the Seagulls swoop to seal a deal although the former Albacete man is thought to favour playing in Spain.
