Bruce In Surprise Magpies Job Link

Steve Bruce is the surprise latest name in the frame to become the next manager of Newcastle United. The 58-year-old hails from Northumberland and was a boyhood Newcastle fan, while he also played for Wallsend Boys Club during his childhood.

Bruce spent 20 years as a player, including a successful spell at Manchester United, while his managerial career has taken him to a host of clubs, including Sheffield United, Huddersfield, Wigan, Birmingham, Hull, Aston Villa and the Magpies’ fierce rivals Sunderland.

He is currently in charge of Championship side Sheffield Wednesday, having taken over the job in February, and is targeting a promotion push next season. But his odds to replace Rafael Benitez have tumbled, with speculation rife that he will finally get the chance to manage his boyhood club. Meanwhile, former Chelsea and England captain John Terry has also been mentioned as a possible successor to Benitez.

However, it is believed that the club want somebody with more experience, while Terry has already pledged to remain as Aston Villa boss Dean Smith’s assistant having helped guide the club back to the Premier League last season.
