  • _Kingsley does double over Collins_

For the second time in a week , a German born Super Eagles defender triumphed against their fellow Nigerian in a competitive league as Kingsley Ehizibue’ Cologne overcame Jamilu Collins’ Paderborn 2:1 in the German Bundesliga yesterday.

Exactly 7 days ago on 29 February, Germany-born Balogun’s Wigan had overcome Ajayi’s Wes Brom 1:0 in the English Premer League to help his team climb further out of relegation waters.

Also, yesterday’s encounter would represent Kingsley’s Cologne doing a double over Collins’ Paderborn in the Bundesliga this season having won their first encounter 3:0 on October 20 2019. Collins was not in the match day squad for that encounter.

Both Super Eagles Full backs actually have parallels in milestones as regarding their careers as both are playing in the German Bundesliga for the first time this season.

However, going into yesterday’s match, the objectives facing both players couldn’t be more stark in divergence. As Kingsley’s Cologne were chasing a spot in the Europa league qualifiers, Collins Paderborn were chasing away the cloud of relegation that currently looms large over the Western German club.

And whilst goals from Jonas and Jorge drew Kingsley’s team closer to their promise land, late effort by Dennis was not enough to help Jamilu’s Paderborn stop the rot – 2:1 it ended.

It is safe to say that Kingsley Ehizibue can look forward to another season in his blistering career in Bundesliga in performances that surely attracted the attention of Super Eagles handlers. They currently occupy 10th position on the league table with 32 points – 4 points away from Europa league qualifiers.

Jamilu Collins unfortunately is bearing down the barrels of relegation back to the league 2 in Germany with his Paderborn team mates; which has the potentials of harming his continued invitation to the Super Eagles as the pool of players eligible to kit for the Super Eagles continues to widen by the day.

    • Correction: West Brom vs Wigan was played in the English Championship.

Both teams have – at one time or the other – graced the English Premer League.

Whilst Wes Brom are looking to return Premier League, Wigan are seeking to retain a place in the Championship.

Funny enough, both teams are edging close to their objectives!
