CAF Dismisses AFCON 2021 Cancellation Rumours

CAF Dismisses AFCON 2021 Cancellation Rumours

The Confederation of African (CAF) has denied reports that the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations will be cancelled.

CAF labelled the news coming from Europe as “lies and fake news”.

There were reports on Thursday morning that the European Clubs Association’s (ECA) have decided not to release African players for the AFCON.

Head of Media Relations and Operations, Lux September, hours after the news from the ECA and news of cancelation of the tournament from Europe, took to his social media to speak on the matter.

Mr Lux September tweeted quoting a tweet of Mail Online reporting that heads of CAF were discussing cancellation of the tournament;

“Of course these are LIES….. There has not been a single meeting where this was discussed. But we all know the source of misinformation from some “lobby” groups. They always undermine Africa…. We know them”, the tweet said.

Before this, Mr September had had his say on similar tweet from another outlet, Get French Football News (GFFN) reporting an RMC news that said CAF heads were in a meeting over AFCON termination.

“Fake News (!!!! Police cars revolving light emoji) But Facts Are boring!”, he tweeted.

Not quite long we were informed, 2021 AFCON May Be Cancelled Over COVID Omicron Variant, then in another breath, CAF Dismisses AFCON 2021 Cancellation Rumours. So, is CAF telling us there is nothing like omicron? And if it exist, what checks are in place to prevent it from entering Cameroon? I don’t think it’s enough for CAF to be dilly dally. It should let us know what it is doing about omicron because millions are looking towards next month’s Afcon.

Why should they tell you? Are you joining outsiders to disregard us the way they do? Come off it, bro. It’s our tournament and nothing would give room for us to dance to their tunes. AFCON will hold, irrespective of whatever the western world want. We need it be respected in our sovereignty. That’s the timing that pays us though it may not be convenient.

Many a time the Europeans try to make us look as if we are under their leadership and would want to tell us what to do with our lives. It has to stop.

It’s about time we took issues into our hands and let no one dictates to us.Their has been widespread rumours of AFCON cancellation. This is being done to cause disorder and chaos within the African football frameworks and it must not be allowed to stand. We have got to be respected. It’s out tournament and we love ourselves the way we are.

The many months lock down over covid-19 came from them, not Africa. First thing first so as to avoid finding ourselves in another mad rush to stocking our houses with food stuffs. So therefore, CAF must reassure us now before last minute ditch.

Ok @Olupotan i think u need to understand what @Johnson is saying here. Much has African needs to take charge and not submit itself to European dictatorship, the advent of COVID-19 means the world has to think health as One people.

CAF cannot close its eyes at the presence of d Omicron Covid variant virus. They have to tell the whole world, especially clubs with African players, how they intend to manage the siuation. It is important that they do else they can go ahead with the tournament without the likes of Marez, Sallah, Mane, Osimhen nd d others african players plying their trade in Europe…

I just heard from the news that the new FIFA rules allows teams to hold back their player(s) should the quarantine period exceed 5days for anyone that travels out of Europe. I stand corrected though…

My prayer is that the tournament goes on with all our African Stars. I hope they can reach a compromise.

Amoo is far better than Nwakali who refused to grow since 2017 under 18 days.

This is not Rumors, Watch it guys… In South Africa Jordan and all of us talk about it because Fifa refuse our petition against Senegal Referee!!!

A good friend of mine told me that CAF president will sell Africa cup to EPL and other big leagues because South Africa where denied by FIFA.

  • Bobby 2 years ago

Who do you talk much about Ndidi who is never as good as Yaya Youre. Ndidi overhyped shit.

    • @Bobby You must be a retard? What is Ndidi’s business with this post or who compared Ndidi to Yaya Toure here? Is it our fault that you guys can’t accept defeat? The problem with you South Africans is that you expect so much from your team, what you expect is simply above their capacity and even if that match was replayed, you won’t still make it to the World Cup playoffs. I mean you guys didn’t even make AFCON so I understand why you are so pained
