CAF, FIFA Reach Agreement For AFCON 2025 To Hold In Summer

Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) have reached an agreement in principle for the AFCON 2025 to hold in the summer.

According to former France Football reporter, Hanif Ben Berkane, there is the possibility of the tournament to hold between mid-July and mid-August 2025.

The timing of the AFCON has always been an issue mostly with European clubs who have to be without key African players.

The tournament is always staged between January and February and has led to criticisms by owners of top European club owners and coaches.

Their argument is that the tournament is held in the thick of the European season.

The last time the AFCON was held in the summer was the 2019 edition in Egypt.

Following the agreement reached by CAF and FIFA, this would surely be a welcome development for European clubs.

Meanwhile, the qualifiers for the AFCON 2025 will begin in March 2024 with preliminary round.

Côte d’Ivoire won their third AFCON title after a 2-1 win against Nigeria in the final.

Thus is a good development and should be maintained.

  • The idea is only good when North African countries are hosting.

It would be a bad idea when West/east African countries are hosting as it will be at the Hight of the raining season.

How is that a good development?
From who’s perspective is it a good development??

So just to satisfy the Europeans and Oyibo people, it is good to make the “darkies” suffer ba? Did you not see how many cooling/water breaks they had in last AFCON even though that was in the “harmattan” season? which is meant to be the coolest season in many African countries – still it was unbearably hot for many, remember that most of the players in such a competition will probably be playing their football in much colder climes, so now they are saying they want to hold AFCON in European summer time, do you know how hot that gets in Africa, they will be needing more than 10 cooling/water breaks in that competition, the players will suffer more from wear and tear and fatigue, and what these people have not factored in is that they can never win – for them it is any which way but lose, because they may have won the battle by lobbying CAF through FIFA muscle to agree to something that benefits the Europeans greed, but they will surely lose the war- their greed will still turn around and bite them in their nethers when the players all come back (go back to Europe) knackered and completely worn out which will lead to drops in form and susceptibility to injuries – wait and see!, it is the same them who are advocating for “summer AFCON” now that will be crying to move it back to harmattan again! Mark my words! lol

    Yeye people!

    • North African countries have their rainy season in January and dry season in the summer or June. That was why Algeria hosted their in June 2019.

Conversely west African weather is torrential in June and dry in January.

I don’t blame CAF else only west Africa will be hosting in January. Nice one it is hosted in an odd year so there’ll be no AFCON in senior world cup year

Okay – I can’t say I’m well up with all those African weather seasons lol – but I just don’t like them making Africans bend over backwards for their own benefit – this type of tom foolery has been going on for a minute now and it has to stop.

Africa can’t continue bending backwards for Europeans or else we will break. Y’all don’t need to thank me, the pleasure is all mine.
