Nigeria’s Super Falcons stand to earn a record prize if they successfully defend their title after the Confederation of African Football, CAF, announced a substantial increase in the prize money for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Completesports.com reports.
CAF confirmed on Wednesday that the winners of this year’s tournament will receive $2 million, representing a 100 per cent increase from the $1 million the Super Falcons earned after claiming their record-extending 10th continental title at the last edition.
The governing body has also increased the tournament’s total prize fund by 67 per cent, from $3.475 million to $5.8 million.
The runners-up will now receive $750,000, a 50 per cent increase, while the third-placed team will earn 43 per cent more than in the previous edition.

In addition, each of the 16 participating teams will receive $150,000 in participation funding, up from $125,000 previously — a 20 per cent increase.
CAF also highlighted the remarkable growth in investment in the competition under its current leadership.
Since the present administration took office, the champions’ prize has risen by 900 per cent, from $200,000 to $2 million, while the overall prize fund for the has grown by 495 per cent, from $975,000 to $5.8 million.
The expansion of the competition has also continued, with the number of participating teams increasing from 12 to 16, reflecting CAF’s commitment to developing women’s football across the continent.
Morocco will host the WAFCON 2026 finals from July 26 to August 16.
