Michael Babatunde is looking forward to an easy CAF Champions League quarter-finals draw after helping his Moroccan side, Wydad Athletic Club advance from the group stages reports Completesports.com.
The draw for quarter-finals is expected to be held on 20 March.
Babatunde starred for Wydad Athletic Club who beat South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundown 1-0 in their matchday six encounter to finish top of the group last weekend.
The 26-year-old provided the assist for Mohamed Nahiri to score the winner in the 62nd minute of the encounter before he was replaced for William Jebor with four minutes left to play.
Wydad AC finished as group winners with 10 points with a superior goal difference of one ahead of second placed South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.
“Our first aim was to get past the group stages and now that we have achieved that, we can begin to look at the possibility of the semifinals and then the finals,” Babatunde said told Completesports.com.
“You always want to win the CAF Champions League and to win one it is my burning desire.”
“If we can get to the final that will be great. It’s an opportunity to win a trophy with Wydad and hopefully I can do that this year.”
“I want to be remembered as a winner. Every player wants to win and I’m no different. I’ve grown up all my life wanting to win trophies.”
Wydad Casablanca will face one of the runners up (Simba SC, Constantine and Horoya AC )from the other three groups in the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League.
The first leg matches of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals will take place on 5, 6 and 7 April, while the second leg matches will be held on 12, 13 and 14 April.
The semi-finals will be played at the end of April and early May, given that the first leg of the final will be played between 24-26 May and the second leg between 31 May and 1 June.
