CAFCL: Lobi Stars Now To Host Wydad On Saturday

The CAF Champions League Group A match between Nigeria’s sole representative, Lobi Stars of Makurdi and Wydad Casablanca of Morocco earlier scheduled for Friday, February Ist has been rescheduled for Saturday February 2 in Enugu, Completesports.com reports.

The change was necessitated by the unavailability of the stadium in Enugu on Friday due to host a presidential campaign rally of one of the political parties, All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Nigeria Football Federation after making several frantic efforts succeeded in getting CAF to reschedule the Lobi Stars -Wydad clash for 2pm on Saturday.

“The match will now hold on Saturday by 2 pm instead of the earlier date of Friday and 5pm kick off time. CAF were lenient with us by granting us the shift in date and we appreciate this gesture,” an NFF official stated.

Meanwhile, Wydad who are top of the Group A on three points with superior goals difference arrived Enugu on Tuesday to acclimatize ahead of the game.

Mamelodi Sundowns, Asec Mimosas and Lobi occupy second, third and fourth positions respective also on three points apiece, but with fewer goals scored.

Hosts Lobi Stars are also in Enugu ready for the game.

  • This is crazy. Moving a continental football match for a political rally. And it’s not the first time.

    Stadiums should be for the purpose they are built first and foremost, not politics and religious crusades.

    This is a hang over from ending the league prematurely and crowning Lobi Stars champion. In saner climes this cannot happen as they would have planned ahead for all the matches as the dates are fixed a year in advance.

    But then again Lobi Stars play their continental games in Enugu bestselling of flight problems into Makurdi airport for visiting teams.

    I wonder when will Nigeria stop all these madness, I can’t just understand , its like this so called politics is making our people to be crazy.
