CAFWCL: Edo Queens Battle Ready For Egypt’s FC Masar — Coach Aduku

Edo Queens head coach, Moses Aduku says every match of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League must be approached like a World Cup final.

The WAFU B champions started their campaign in Morocco on a winning note, thrashing Commercial Bank FC of Ethiopia 3-0 on Sunday.

The Nigerians will be up against Egypt’s FC Masar , who caused the biggest upset of the tournament to date with their shock 1-0 win over reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies on Wednesday.

A win against FC Masar will see them in a good position to historically secure a place in the semi-finals of the competition.

Aduku said they can’t afford to take anything for granted at this stage of the competition.

“Them (FC Masar) defeating the champions (Mamelodi Sundowns) has certainly given them confidence, but we are not here to undermine any team,” Aduku told CAF’s official website.

‘” What I have told my team is that every team that is here are potential champions and we have to play every game like it is a cup final.”

  • Winning the second match against giant killers in Egypt’s FC Masar will be a huge feather in the cap of Edo Queens.

They have started well and are flying the flag of homebase players with excitement and authority.

With Super Falcons Coach Madugu already appearing to look onwards for exciting talents, Edo Queens are not only showing themselves in a good light, they are also serving as a barometer of how far the domestic league has come and how technically sound and tactically astute the players are.

Too true but I still think we have a long wait to go.

Anyhow, having watched how fit and formidable Edo Queens were in the first match, I now believe that the domestic scene can produce players that can combine with their foreign counterparts to make the Super Falcons a formidable force again on the continent.

The last Wafcon rarely had homebase players playing a prominent role. My guess is that this will likely change next year.

With the way Edo Queens are going about their business, hope abd faith will definitely be restored in the domestic scene following another rip-roaring performance tomorrow.
