Norwich have been linked with Malaga winger Javier Ontiveros – who is angling for a new deal and also interests Villarreal. ESPN FC are reporting that Norwich, Crystal Palace and Sheffield United are all interested in the 21-year-old, who has previously represented Spain at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level.
But reports in Spain suggest his agent could be trying to leverage a new deal out of Malaga, who finished third in the Segunda Division last term and missed out on promotion in the play-offs. Ontiveros has one year left on his contract with the Andalusian club and has a relatively low release clause.
Malaga were forced to reduce the clause by half from 15m to 7.5m euros following their relegation two seasons ago, but club sources claim that clause has now been reinstated to its original amount after a year in the second tier. Ontiveros finished last season in great form, scoring five goals in Malaga’s last six games – alerting the interest of Villarreal.
