Take a bow, DIOGO JOTA! Wow, looks like we now have someone who can really start competing with Messi and CR7. Jota was simply on another level in the center forward position. It sure looks like Firmino has entered ONE CHANCE at Liverpool, because as long as Jota continues to play like this, no sane coach will bench him! Unless Firmino wants to challenge Salah and Mane (who are both also in red hot form) on the wings.
It would be a shame to leave Firmino on the bench though. He may not score much, but his link up play with Salah and Mane is so valuable to the team.
A possible solution is for Klopp to play Jota and Firmino in the attack together. With Mane and Salah on the flanks. Then instead of his trademark 3 midfielders, go with 2, holding strongly in front of the back four, with the full backs bombing forward in the usual Liverpool style. Whatever miniscule advantage is lost in the midfield, will be compensated for by a razor sharp attack.
@Pompei … JOTA to compete with MESSI and RONALDO … hahaha very funny joke . He needs to compete with NEYMAR , MBAPPE , HAALAND , SANCHO , DE BRUYNE and others before dreaming about MESSI and RONALDO .
JOTA aint even the best player in LIVERPOOL , Yet you talking about competing with MESSI and RONALDO .
I repeat no player in the history of football is on their peak for long like MESSI and RONALDO .
There’s Messi , Ronaldo and the rest ( Their records for both Club and Country proves that they are once in a lifetime kinda players ) .
JOTA or any other players needs to stay at their best for more than ten (10 ) seasons before dreaming of coming close to RONALDO and MESSI .
God bless Nigeria
Indeed, Messi AND CR7 are way ahead of others based on historical achievements. However, their abilities are declining gradually with advancing age. Jota is nowhere near Messi and CR7 when they were much younger. Considering where the dynamic duo are now given there age, their levels are comparable with Jota’s current form. The fact is that if Jota continues to perform on that level he showed against Atalanta consistently for the foreseeable future, then he will likely achieve stats that rival Messi and CR7. Note, he grabbed a hattrick against a very solid Serie A team in Atalanta, a team that routinely gives other big football clubs a lot of problems. Watch the highlights. It wasn’t just the hattrick by itself, it was the way he went about doing it. Let’s just say we are now seeing the reason Klopp went all out to poach the guy from Wolves. He could have gone for Jimenez, but went for Jota. E get why, and we are now seeing it!
Additionally, Jota does not have to be the best in Liverpool to be considered a competitor to Messi and CR7, BASED ON CURRENT FORM.
Based on current form, the likes of Mbappe, Mane, Salah, Kane, and other similarly highly productive forwards, have stats that rival Messi and CR7.
Again, if we are talking historical, all-time stats, then obviously Messi and CR7 are way ahead. But the comparison is based on current form.
To drive the point home, if a decision is to be made about who to sign TODAY among a red hot 23 yr old Diogo Jota, a 33 yr old Messi, and a 35 yr old CR7, obviously that is going to be a tough decision. Jota has age on his side, and I get am before no be property. Based on what Messi and CR7 are capable of TODAY, Jota’s production is definitely comparable to the two greats.
