Etebo who was voted man of the match in Stoke City’s previous two Championship games against Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers teed up James McLean for the Potters only goal of the game late in the first half.
He was replaced by veteran midfielder Charlie Adam deep into stoppage time.
The former CD Feirense of Portugal player has scored twice in 29 Championship games for the club this season.
Stoke City finished the game with 10-men following the dismissal of Bruno Martins Indi and Thomas Edwards.
At the Macron Stadium, Middlesbrough ended a run of seven games without a win courtesy of a 2-0 victory against Bolton Wanderers.
John Mikel Obi was in action for Middlesbrough for the entire duration of the game.
The former Chelsea midfielder has featured in 13 Championship games for the club but is yet to find the back of the net once.
Ashley Fletcher scored both goals for Middlesbrough in the first half of the encounter.
Sammy Ameobi was also on from start to finish for Bolton Wanders in the game.
Former Super Eagles defender Ambrose Efe was not in the matchday squad as Derby County suffered a 2-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers at the Ewood Park.
Ambrose is yet to feature in an official game for the Rams since his arrival on a short term deal early in the year.
