Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has heaped praise on Arthur Okonkwo following the goalkeeper’s outstanding display in the Addicks’ 2-1 away victory over West Ham United.
Okonkwo made a memorable debut for Charlton at the London Stadium, playing a key role in helping Jones’ side secure maximum points from the keenly contested encounter.
The Nigeria international only completed a loan move to Charlton from Wrexham two days before the game but showed no signs of being unsettled by his new surroundings.
The shot-stopper produced an assured performance between the sticks, making eight saves to frustrate the hosts and preserve his side’s slender advantage.
Okonkwo also impressed with his composure and command of the penalty area as West Ham piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser.
His impressive showing earned plaudits from Jones, who was delighted with the goalkeeper’s contribution to the victory.
“Arthur Okonkwo was outstanding. It’s wonderful to work with him. He has shown real desire to join the football club,” Okonkwo was quoted by Sky Sports.
The performance will provide a major confidence boost for Okonkwo as he looks to establish himself as Charlton’s first-choice goalkeeper during his loan spell at the club.
